Okay so I have a rooted ( Cricket Indulge ) The phone locked up on me and upon reboot I received the error "TWLauncher failed. Force close". Tried to use the steps in Odin but I can't get to the download menu.
Holding the number 9 and power does not work for this device. I can still receive incoming calls and texts and can respond in thread with those but as soon as I disconnect from thread I can't swipe the screen lock. I can access the recovery mode but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

You turned the phone completely OFF...opened the manual keyboard..held DOWN the "9" button, and pressed the Power button and the Download screen still would not pop up?

Yet can still receive calls, texts, etc?

    That's incredible..

You do NOT need to reflash your phone for this. Please stop now.

That message is just telling you that the default launcher (touchwiz) is not working properly.
All you need to do is use adb to install and alternate launcher on the phone and you'll be set.

I recommend GoLauncherEX but others report being satisfied with LauncherPro and OpenHome. Albeit those other launchers not being free.

In any case, know that you definitely do not have to Odin flash or reset your phone unless you really want to.

PS: if you wish to, you could try using the recovery menu to wipe your cache and dalvik -cache partitions, to reset a few things and see if that works first. (I can't remember if the stock phone's recovery menu allows for this, but it sure is worth a shot.

well I have sdk manager and avd manager installed and when I try to open adb all I get is a quick command window that flashes and then is gone but I can't get past that. The phone is connected on charge only and not powered up at all when i try to open adb.

Just got back and noticed your posts. I could have helped you earlier with the adb problem but seems like you found a way to make it work somehow...
As to your debugging problem, your best bet is to just wish it was already selected (I believe it's on by default on the Indulge ).and try to install the apk of your choice.

Steps: download a home launcher replacement apk from the market or some other site of your preference.
Hook the phone to your pc (if it's not already hooked up ).
In that terminal prompt with your working adb, type adb Devices and make sure your phone shows
up (you may have to install the drivers for the phone first. I'm not sure cause I use Linux, not windows )
Once (if) you see your phone there, run the command adb install <nameoflauncherreplacementfile.apk>
this will install the launcher on your phone.
Press the home button on the phone and select the alternate launcher at the prompt.

i'm going to try that today. I fortunately have the entire day to try to figure this out. I will be staying by this terminal all day until problem is resollved. I will keep all posted as i make or don't make progress. Once this is finished I hope it helps someone to either fix or build on this thread.

And I don't think the debugging is on by default. if it's not than I may still have to reflash with odin. I called Samsung support and they said that because the phone is rooted that i would have to reflash. The reason being is that once the phone is rooted it removes the stock " hold down the 9 on keypad and the power key at same time". That command works on non-rooted versions but once you root it becomes a "non" issue and must reflash. Hopefully I can find a back door way to prove them wrong.
    :)........wish me luck

lol.....no. what i noticed was that even though the phone was rooted and the twlauncher was in a perpetual force close loop I was still able to receive calls and text and I could respond in thread. Unable to unlock the screen or boot in download mode I was still able to get to the task manager by holding the home screen but all that would pull up was my recent applications. Well using my wifes LG optimus C I called my phone and when the call would come in it would come in as a normal call and my options at bottom of screen were normal. Including turning on bluetooth!!!!
I hit bluetooth and it took me to my bluetooth settings to scan for devices. I made a connection with her phone and then hung up the phone call. I then downloaded Launcher pro from the market on her phone and using Bluetooth File Transfer I sent application to my Indulge. The Indulge recognized the incoming request and accepted file transfer. In the notification drop down I opened and installed the new launcher and by default it asked me to remove default settings in TwLauncher and I did then I pressed the home key and it prompted me to complete the action using one of two launchers and Launcher pro was the one I chose and tada!!!!! Home screen access!!! I set it as my default launcher and no problems since. I then downloaded Go Launcher ex and the unlocked version and i'm back to my good old rooted and overclocked Indulge. Simple yet genious....okay lucky.....but I will take luck over skill any day....hope this helps others...I only know that this works on the Samsung Indulged that is rooted and is throwing the Twlauncher force close error. Hopefully it works for others because Odin and SDK Manager and AVD manager as well as adb only work on devices that can boot into download mode. Good old fashion bluetooth did the trick. I knew there had to be a fix. I guess I got lucky. But I'm okay with that.

You lucky son of a mother! I'm happy that worked for you. Just to alleviate your worries, this should work on any device, rooted or not. It's not the cleanest or simplest way to do things, buy it's got it's merits, I'll give yoi that, lol.

I still have some buggy issues but it's only with font size and my dial pad. I can't seem to access all of the keypad in my phone because the keys overlap my display. I can live with that. And my market appearance doesn't look the same. Other than that everything is hunky dory

The market was updated a couple of days ago. What you have is the new market appearance.
for your issue with keys, are you talking about swype? Try downloading a different keyboard from the market and see if that's better. People have been recommending the gingerbread keyboard, but I myself prefer the multiling keyboard. It's quite light, free and has more features than most paid keyboards out there.
For the font issue, did you know you can download different fonts from the market? Try the app Fontomizer. It's made for Samsung phones and works great on the indulge. I am using it myself, and I have my system font set to Ubuntu.

whats good. I see i'm not the only one on here with the Cricket version of the Indulge. I wanted to know if Basix 1.0 Rom Will work with the R915 from Cricket or not?
I already rooted it with cwm I found here in the forums and it worked great, now i'm trying to get some custom roms installed and haven't been able to find much yet on the Cricket Indulge phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Playing with colors?
    Welcome to the Forums!
Unfortunately, I must tell you that the basix rom is not compatible with the r915 as of yet. It hasn't been tried to my knowledge, but the developer said it wouldn't work... :(

I have done several different keyboards. The issues aren't with the keyboards themselves they are only with the dialpad on the phone screen. The only way I can send a dialed number is to open the keyboard in landscape view after inputing the numbers. It's like the numbers are too large for the display and the overlap off screen and out of view. My calculator is the same way. Other than that the phone is working great.
As far as keyboards go I don't really like the gingerbread keyboard either. The best one I have found is the Swiftkey X beta. The predictive on it is by far the best out there. The talk to text feature is also better by giving you three choices when choosing the closest match to what you say. It's only free for a limited time though and then you have to pay to continue to use all the features. Hackers keyboard was way to busy and unless you have a display the size of a small tablet it's not practical. The samsung keyboard is actually pretty good as far as preloaded features go.
