[ROOT] RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter | Updated 08.17.12 What it does: Verifies Device and Battery Level (Needs to be charged to at least 40% before running) Reboots to Bootloader and Gets Unlock Token Sends Token to HTCdev.com Retrieves Unlock_code.bin Unlocks Bootloader Flashes TWRP Recovery Sends Superuser packages and busybox to device Check the XDA thread for more info. This does NOT give you s-off. It will unlock your bootloader and install TeamWin's custom recovery. Once you do this, your bootloader will display "Unlocked." If you run the RUU it will say "Relocked." I haven't tried it yet but might tomorrow.
I already rooted my phone using (http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...-mac-linux-one-click-partial-root-method.html). If I want to now have a full root with the TWRP recovery, can I use this new method? Or do I first have to unroot by loading the RUU (which I've never done before, so I'd like to avoid if possible)...
According to Regaw, this will work on partially rooted phones. I still say double check the thread since I didn't design it.
HEEEYYYY!!! Good deal homie, another Greenie Weenie for the El Tevo community! This does seem to be the best root method now. Thanks for following and posting when it was released.
No problem! Still debating waiting for an S-OFF method or doing this now. I've had to flash radios in the past, but not as often as kernels or ROMs.
I just went through with this. I'm thinking (and this is entirely my opinion) that if a homebrew S-OFF does eventually come along, the HTC unlock shouldn't prevent me from also getting S-OFF. Not sure if an ENG HBOOT was ever leaked for this phone, but if so, I'd proceed with flashing that to remove the 'Tampered' SHIP HBOOT. Anyhow, this one-click method was super easy.
Thats the general consensus over at the OP thread on XDA. I've read the entire thing, looking for tricks, or troubleshooting ideas in case we have any issues over here. I'm going to wait for a hot minute. I had to get my first one replaced because of suspected hardware issues. I got lucky as hell a BB in Pittsburgh had stock! Once I'm sure this one is kosher, I'll root with this method.
FWIW - before this TWRP mod, before s-off, the Rezound community was flashing kernels and radios simply using fastboot flash. I'm not convinced that we won't be able to flash radios if we never get s-off. The Rezounders could, why not us?
I haven't had any issues with the BT pairing at all. I wonder whats going on there. I really hope the EXT4 recovery from the 3vo come over, I liked that one. What I ultimately want to see is: Amon-Ra. Can I haz??
OK, this was so easy even a caveman can do it! Seriously, this was probably the easiest root I've done since Z4root on my Hero. These devs have serious talent, I'm going to donate to Regaw.
I rooted last night without clearing Google Wallet with the root only method. I'd seen some problems on getting it working again even with clearing first. Titanium restore data did the trick for me. Cleared it and it got stuck on 99%, force close, wiped app data. Then used the full root+recovery method, it worked no problem first time. Restoring Wallet data worked again. No secure element issues for me. P.S. Can anyone tell me how I soft root this bad boy!
If you used the method linked above you're fully rooted. The infamous "soft root" isn't really applicable to your phone anymore. No need to try anything else, you can flash anything you want now and run root only apps!!
Just used this method myself. Painless. A+ Job. I used the one click root last week so my bootloader says *Tampered* and *unlocked*, but honestly it doesnt matter at this point. I could always RUU to get rid of tampered. Also, just made my first nandroid.... and wow that was fast compared to the OG EVO
I used this method yesterday, so it unlocked and rooted and my phone for sure, but when I when I went into the bootloader menu and selected recovery, it simply rebooted. It puts up a nice status window that I'd closed without paying attention if the earlier steps were all successful (TWRP installation was nearer the top). Anyway - I simply re-ran it, and when it got to the point where it said, click to continue if you're already unlocked (it had contacted htc-dev a second time, so I was a little nervous) - and it went on to install TWRP correctly (and re-write SU, but who cares, that's a don't-care). This is the way to go.
Mine rebooted the first time I selected recovery too, I just thought maybe I accidentally hit a volume button again before power. Rebooted to bootloader a second time and recovery worked. Odd. Maybe it's supposed to do that.
AHHH, touche!! I don't yell, I use this: I didn't have any reboots, booted into recovery first try, all systems go!! I flashed the Stock freeza kernel, gonna comment in that thread tomorrow after I get a test day in. PS: nandroids are wicked fast on this compared to the OG.
I saw the kernel, what's the advantage of it so far? Didn't look like much added. I guess anythings good since we don't have source yet. How do we get on HTC about that?
Same here, used the 1-click method 5hrs after i got the phone Friday but didn't know I had to unlock via HTC to flash a recovery. I was a lil' white-knuckled for a few minutes, as I didn't know the HTC Driver files in the this method were different than the ones in the 1-click root i did via Linux earlier. So after the initial reboot into the HBOOT screen, i had to download/install the correct drivers before the root program would complete. I noticed it was just sitting on the bootloader screen, so i had to reboot the phone completely after installing the drivers (simply rebooting bootloader didn't work) for the program to register that the drivers were now installed correctly. It also threw an error when contacting the HTC Dev site, and i had to re-run the root exe a 2nd time for it to complete successfully. Bricks are not good, but *Tampered* and *Unlocked* I can certainly live with
I didn't run the perm root method, went straight for the jugular, full root. I have both "tampered" and "unlocked" on mine. I really don't care anymore, this unit is a good one.
its not working for me. I started the RegawMOD program, clicked Root Me, and then Yes. Phones reboots to the bootloader screen, and now the program just says Rebooting to bootloader... Phone not connected.
