If a person moves the downloaded apps to an External SD card and removes the card before doing a factory reset will the data be there on the External SD card?

After the reset, the person goes to Google play store via the app with the same Google Account, and reinstall all the apps, will apps have the same data before the factory reset?

    Hi,
If you have" checked" the option" automatic restore" in settings>Backup & reset, the all apps ( system and installed) will come back after the factory reset automatically.

No. The data will not necessarily be there.

I've used that backup before. Not all apps backup their data there.

I use helium from google play and back up the data from my apps to my external sd card. No need to pull it. Once the factory reset is complete and all of the apps have been downloaded again from google play...be sure helium is one of them...simply reconnect helium to your desktop and restore your data from your external card. Its fast! The app is free but you can buy the premium version for $4.99 and support the developer.

Factory reset is nothing but removing all manually installed apps, Only the system apps will remain after doing factory reset

Note that the link is specific to a Nexus, not necessarily applying to Android in general. We don't know if the OP is or is not actually a Nexus owner.

IIRC any time you freshly set up any device you have an option to restore apps (unsure if data is included as I always went with a fresh install of apps) as long as you synced them with your Google account
