    It's Complicated
    This made me wince:

"LTE smartphones and tablets will be available on the market by mid-2011..."

Just doesn't strike me as Jan/Feb.

AMOLED = color inaccuracies; bright, beautiful inaccuracies, but still...

This was the case on the N1, Desire, Inc. This was due to the way the pixels were arranged, blue, double red, blue, double green, blue...

LCD may not be as bright or power efficient, but bring on the 4.3" LCD, because we will not see SAMOLED2 on an HTC device until Sammy releases it on one of their own devices first. Still havent' seen SAMOLED1 on any non-Sammy devices.

    I dont think that's unrealistic

no one seems to be paying attention to verizon's history. They announce their devices RIGHT before they launch them. That's how it's been the past few times.

I sure hope that's the case, my concern is that this is only one of many LTE devices Verizon is going to be showing off at CES, and surely they won't all be launching soon after the announcement, a lot of what we will see are going to be sneak peeks so to speak of devices that could be a ways off. Luckily we know this is going to be the first 4G LTE phone, so we can assume the launch date shouldn't be too far off. Also, we haven't seen anything from the FCC, which usually gives us a 4-6 week heads-up before launch, so anything can happen. I really hope it launches in January/February, but my bet is realistically sometime between mid February to early March, hopefully I'm wrong.

Granted...if I had HDMI output on my laptop, I would use that over VGA...but I don't (the wife's new Laptop does...but she doesn't take that any further than the kitchen table :D) My point is that I have "real" storage capabilities on a laptop that you don't have on a phone. You can carry a few movies on a 16GB SD card...but with my Laptop's internal drive (not to mention USB Drives) I could have an entire movie collection with me.

But based on the comments...seems like people do find uses for the HDMI port on phones. I just don't see it as a necessity but if it's there...bonus.

And yes, VGA is on the way out but you'll be hard pressed to find a HDTV without that connection today. I just bought a new 32" TV from Best Buy and was looking for an DVI connection (as that is the best quality output available on my older bedroom computer's video card). No HDTV's with DVI ports to be found but only two HDTV's in the store without VGA connection.

Same here, the droid is slowing down... but I just bought it in April 2010... so I still have awhile.

    My concerns/questions are:
    -battery life
-will my city have LTE up and running? If not, do I still have to pay $50 for 5gb?
-cost- will my work discount apply to the LTE data plans? Is a data limit with increased speeds worth more than unlimited 3G?
-1st gen hardware- I tend to pass this stuff but with Android evolving so fast, I'm sure it won't be more than a few months until Motorola, Samsung, etc. come out with their own 4G hardware. Fascinate 4G? Nexus S 4G? Droid LTE?

This will slow the Verizon iPhone switchers. I firmly believe that the Verizon iPhone will be nothing more than a rewarmed CDMA iPhone 4, which I'll take a pass on.

They're banking on the fact that there is so much pent up demand for the iPhone that people will just hand their money over for one. They're gonna botch this one- I'm guessing LTE iPhone 5 won't happen until next year, and that's 50yrs in the mobile world. They did it with the first iPhone (EDGE -> 3G) and they're gonna do it again. By then Android will have dominated the LTE handset market.

A fast, sexy, LTE, brand new Thunderbolt will make even the most hardcore Apple fan think twice. But the increased data plan costs is a debbie downer, especially since the network isn't entirely rolled out yet.

They havent announced what the prices for 4g will be for phones that price is for tablets and that not phones. And personally i hope they dont get an iphone because it will just bog down the network with all those who come over from other carriers I will stick with android i dont want a tiny screen like on all the other iphones and like the openness of android anyways

True, but I think it's safe to say that with LTE, there won't be unlimited data plans. The telcom industry would love to do away with unlimited plans. AT&T got rid of it and plenty of people still signed on. I predict that LTE data plans will go the route of the AT&T/LTE modem plans- you pay a set fee every month for a certain amount of data and if you go over, you pay more

And it doesn't matter if the iPhone comes to Verizon or not in terms of the network. Smartphones are still in the clear minority in terms of the mobile market, so as more people come on board, (per Google they are signing up 300K new Android users/day) the network will have to handle more users- whether it's Android, iOS, windows, palm, whatever.

Yeah but idk if they will eliminate the unlimited plan and at&t is the only one who got rid of unlimited so i wouldnt say that is the majority since all the other carriers still have unlimited. But nobody knows for sure so we will have to wait and see. I think verizon would be dumb to eliminate the unlimited data plan IMO

I wish people, including VZW would quit calling it unlimited. It is 5gb. Far from unlimited.

its a soft 5g limit.....they arent going to do anything if you go over it once or whatever. If you go over 5g month after month they will though

I had posted about unlimited actually being unlimited. Verizon before had said it truly was, then after my post I researched (I hadn't looked into it in a while) and saw reports of the cap of 5gb being admitted by VZW. Though looking into it, I still am not sure of it being for tethering or not. But to cut to the point, most post didn't have enough backing to keep it. So I edited it out.

Why do people think Verizon does not have unlimited data? When I travel and tether I use about 7-10GB a month. They have never even sent me a letter about it.

If you get their official wifi hotspot crap, there is a limit. But if your just using rooted tether or you genuinely use over 5gb on the phone somehow. They dont seem to care as of now.

    Sigh...

There is no limit, just an allowance. If there were a limit, it would shut off once you hit 5 gigs. It is an allowance in the sense that you can use as much as you want. You're just going to pay for it...

This is all in reference to the BBA plans, not smartphone plans. Smartphone plans have no allowance at all, just unlimited data for $30/mo.

Since when was higher capacity not synonymous with larger size? I don't know about you, but I have yet to see a 2100 maH battery the same size as a 1500. The 2150 for Incredible is literally twice the size of the 1300 that comes with it. I'm not down for a 2 inch thick phone in my pocket.

And before you try to say the 1750 is the same size, I've seen enough tests to believe it is really a 1500 in disguise and refuse to buy a Seidio.

It wouldn't just shut off! It would start billing for additional gb. I'm not sure what there stance is on limits but there has to be something losted in the contract about overages or abuse.
