One of my "better" early smartphones was my Palm Treo 700p. Loved that phone! The only issue was it had a big nubby antenna and if I would get a call while driving and tried to get it out of my pocket, it would always stab me in my junk ;)

Lol granite. We had the same one. I think it was like the i1000 or something. A huge 'flip' phone, no menu options, and the only part that really flipped was the speaker. It had the clear plastic so you could see who was calling you. I think that's the one you're referring to.

We could never figure them out, it was easier to just put all your numbers on a piece of paper rather than navigate the ungodly menu options (Press 2, then 1 then 4 then 3.. then if you are lucky you might have found the person you are after... lol)

Ed - Why the move to AT&T?

The Evo is really the first smartphone that I have ever owned. Before it, I had the Samsung Rant, a super thin Samsung flip phone (m500 maybe?), and two Sanyo flip phones. My first sanyo was one of the first phones to have a camera on it I think. Pretty groundbreaking stuff for its day. I've been with Sprint this whole time, so luckily after my next upgrade in 2012, I'm a gold member and can upgrade every year since I'll have 10+ years under my belt as a Sprint customer.

I love the OG Evo though. If I could get root back, I would be a happy camper.

Sprint canceled me for excessive roaming.
Added a phone on my fiancee's att family plan.

odd thing is..I have not changed my data usage habits...and I didn't hit my 2gb data cap ...actually only used 6%. So why was my data usage on sprint so high? I guess it could have been dloading roms and kernels. My new phone is lacking development support so .....lol

anyway...I was faced with capped data on Verizon at $95/month or capped data on att for $35 and well...I just couldn't justify the greater expense at verizon. (though I was playing with a friends revolution monday...20+ mbps dload speeds ...yeah...CRAZY)

Nothing beats this forum, period! I'm glad you still drop in Ed, you're missed here a lot. The knowledge base here has taken a few hits, we'd be that much worse off if you didn't help out anymore.

O, and I had a Motorola flip cell phone circa 1998. It weighed about 2 lbs!

I had a BlackBerry Curve 8330 then a Tour 9630. Both very bad buys for me. I love my Evo!

@ Granite Lol.. Some of those old phones....

I actually loved my BB 8330 curve. Just wish it had wifi. I'd easily get a couple of days out of the battery (and that included constantly looking for signal).

If Android stopped existing, I'd easily see myself back with my old blackberry. But love the evo. BB just doesn't seem open enough anymore. The fact that I can flash several different versions of the os is still something I marvel at.

    @ Ocn...
I remember how jealous I was on everyone with an Instinct, then I tried using it at Sprint. What a pita....

My last phone was a Sanyo flip phone. It was indestructable. It took a beating and kept on ticking. I had my EVO for about 2 weeks before accidently launching it out of my pocket and shattering it.

sad thing is that the majority of the build of both those brands was qualcomm :p

my sanyo's were great..until I would accidentally run over them..even then all they needed was a new screen

^ :) Impressive. Only a new screen after running it over. I don't remember the phone, but my cousin left her phone on her car and drove off. Only to find it the next day, still working. I'm not sure the evo's touch screen would appreciate that... lol
