Root Removed Some Bloat

Here is my recommendation:

1. RENAME - Rename the file first. Reboot. Make some calls, send some texts, reboot some more. Make sure everything is happy without the file. I usually rename things to *.bak. Makes it easy. If you rename something you decided you shouldn't have, just go back and rename again.
2. MOVE - After you've made sure you're phone is still in magical android happy land, go ahead and move your *.bak files to your SD card, or wherever you'd like to save them.

Now my preference for a file manager is Root Explorer. You can change permissions of any folder on your device to R/O or R/W (read only or read write), rename files, copy, delete, move, whatever. The interface is simple and clean, and it really works well. There are alternatives, this is just the one that I liked enough to spend money on.

Just because you remove, say, half the apps on your phone does not mean free RAM will be any less. If you run less programs, it also doesn't mean your RAM usage will necessarily be any less (though it might). But, unlike what we might be used to with the personal computer, there is not necessarily a 1:1 direct correlation.

In fact, I would HOPE and imagine that removal of programs and running less programs would result in exactly the same RAM usage.

The reason for this is that, in ideal scenarios, Android's memory manager caches/loads this RAM with what it needs, thinks it needs, or what you're using actively. As long as its being intelligent about it, I have no qualms with it using ALL my RAM ALL the time.

Then that will just make us even more giddy when 2.2 shows up! :)

Wait, can I use Titanium Backup to uninstall the bloat instead of Root Explorer?

In terms of bloat removal, what can Root Explorer do that Titanium can't?

I don't know if Titanium lets you do this or not because I haven't used it, but I like Root Explorer's simple interface with standard folder hierarchies. Makes it easy to store stuff in system folders on the phone that you want to always be on it, such as caller id photos or ringtones. Don't know if they work or not, but I like root explorer's control. If Titanium lets you do all this, and you already bought it, I don't know why you'd buy root explorer too, because you can just download it on your new phone for free when you login to your market account.

Yes, you can un-install bloat with Titanium. However, in terms of renaming and re-locating files Root Explorer is much easier to work with. Titanium is free, Root Explorer is a few bucks. But most serious tinkerers have RE. SuperManager is a free alternative to RE but its not quite as good.
So if you just wanna remove/uninstall stuff Titanium is fine. You can also back up stuff with Titanium as well as restore.
I hope that made sense its after midnight here and Im fading fast

Another option you have with Titanium is to "freeze" an app. You do need to have the Titanium Donate which is a couple $'s, but is worth it in my opinion.
