Well, this is really bugging me right now. I can't find a way to remove the extra screens that I never use. I can do it using a launcher like Nova, but that changes my tablet completely and I just want to remove the homescreens and not use any launcher or root the device.

Why are they forcing me to have so many of them is beyond my understanding, it's not like I can fill them up with widgets, that would destroy the already pathetic battery life.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the extra homescreens?

Currently there is no way with the stock build for android to delete homescreens like u can on some phones. The only way to truely do this is getting a custom launcher.

I was hoping that since there is a way to add the percentage to the battery icon, there could be something to remove home screens.

Unfortunately there isnt. Please anyone correct me if I am wrong but I think gingerbread was the only version so far that could, but like I said please dont quote me on that. I just noticed it coming from other sites and forums, and also peoples experience.

Are the screens empty? Once I empty all the icons off a screen, the screen disappears.

My Nex 7 came with just the main screen and I added one to the right by adding a shortcut. Then when I removed it the entire new screen disappeared

Driving me nuts too, glad I'm not the only one. Seems simple enough to make happen in Android. Can't believe that it isn't part of the software.

The stock launcher will always have 5 screens no matter what. The Google Experience launcher that comes on the Nexus 5 and can be sideloaded onto other devices will only have screens if there is something on it. Once all the objects are removed from it, it auto deletes it.

As for the battery percentage, the easiest way to get it is by installing a custom rom that has battery mods. However if you want to have it on the stock rom, it can be enabled through the use of adb and modifying a property. The adb command you'll want to use is:

I was expecting that by using stock Android on both Nexus devices, they would be the same. I have noticed subtle changes between Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, but those were cosmetic ones. The battery percentage can also be fixed with the Percent Enabler app from the Playstore. I was hoping for something similar to allow me to remove those extra home screens.

I can't remember if the previous Nexus 7 was the same, I had it a long time ago.

Why are extra blank home screens an issue? If you don't use them, pretend they aren't there and don't go to them.

I downloaded the Google Home.apk yesterday in place of Nova or stock and it works flawlessly, I've only got 2 screens going plus the Google Now screen plus I get to keep the stock Google look and experience.

That likely means that the adb driver isn't installed correctly and/or that you don't have usb dubugging on in developer options.

Just install Google now launcher. Offers same Google android launcher as nexus 5. Official Google app too and includes Google now from left swipe.

My first post here so hope it helps. Came looking for this answer but solved it when searching for Google experience in play store.
