A few times over the last few days the browser has spontaneously downloaded a 460KB file called "sexygirls.apk".

The last time this happened, my only browser windows that were open were Google apps and the NY Times, so I don't think this is being done by JavaScript. I recently installed Watchdog, which registered a CPU alert (88.3%) for the browser when this occurred. Lookout Mobile Security and Anti-Virus Free didn't find anything in a scan.

I don't see anything suspicious in running applications or battery use logs. The ad-supported apps that were running last time this occurred:
    • Executive Assistant Free
    • The Weather Channel
    • Smooth Calendar
    • Widget soid

This is on a rather new Sony-Ericsson Xperia Arc running Android 2.3.2.

It's not a huge problem because the apk doesn't install by itself (and can't be installed without enabling Unknown Sources), but it makes me suspicious that I have a trojan installed. Please advise.

Not heard of this myself. Unlikely to be an arc specific problem, more likely to be generally android related - might be worth trying a different subforum you might get a better response.

FWIW i've got smooth calendar and widgetsoid installed and dont have this issue, so theyre unlikely to be the cause.

Unless of course this is one of those "honestly darling, i dont know how this porn got on there, the phone must have downloaded it itself" kind of things, ;)

Okay thanks, what would be a more appropriate forum for this?

Hmmm good question... to my great surprise there's no general android problems/issues/help forum that i can see.

Maybe try the android lounge or the applications forum

You might want to try a factory data reset! Apparently your phone has gotten some sort of malware on it.
