it will probably have 1.5 out of the box and once activated will prompt you to upgrade.

Mine comes tomorrow... I'll be a little sad too if it comes with the new 1.49 boot loader. Here's hoping!

if the service tech person at the store tries to update to the OTA stop them! Mine almost did that and I told him maybe I'll stick to 1.5 since 2.1 is when all the problems started...

Yeah, they just wanna update everything, like it's going to help.

Turn it off, then press the volume down button and power button (and hold). Look at the screen. If the boot loader that comes up says 1.49, you won't be able to root, if it says 1.47, there is a 99% chance you will be able to.

even if you get a 1.5'r and you or they update it via ota you can still root.....im almost positive, unless something changed.

That's what I want to know. Can you root from 2.1 ota or do you need 1.5. Tried the search but nothing came up.

If it is the OTA yes, you can root, but some of the new phones people are recieving have the 1.49 S-ON bootloader and they are unable to root with that. Hopefully the devs find some vulnerability in 1.49 S-ON, but there are no guarantees.

Edit: Added S-ON to clarify more.

  14. Mine came with 1.49.2000 S-OFF which roots just fine.

1.49.2 S-OFF is the rooted boot loader :p

  16. It came with that on it though is what I am saying.

I dont know if I got someones refurbished rooted eris or what, but the first time I started the phone this was the first thing I looked at.
