Root Replacing 1x Icon on CM 10 BoBz 5/21

Has anyone been able to successfully do this? I been searching threads but can't seem to find a tutorial for our phones.

I don't know how to do it on cm10, but in sure it's similar to stock. I downloaded ninja morph from the play store. Then I extracted my systemui.apk in /system/apps with root explorer. Found my stock 4g icon in res/drawable-hdpi of the newly extracted apk. Opened ninja morph and selected systemui.apk, which will open the apk like a file browser. Then I went to res /drawable-hdpi and selected the icon I wanted to change ( in your case it will be the 1x icon), which will bring you to a file browser and you find the 4g icon you just extracted and select it. Go back select finish, select system ui and hit yes to everything reboot and you should be good

Here is my View attachment SystemUI.apk. Just copy to your phone with root explorer, set permissions and reboot. The only thing is that it will not work if you change themes.

The problem with this is that when you really are on 1x, it will say 4G. This is why the devs do not switch icons.

I've heard stories of a "dev" changing a 1x icon to 3G so he could say that anyone who flashes this will have "3G all the time". Of course that is not correct and once the mods found out this happened, he was quickly banned from here.

The reason CM says 1x when on 4G is not an icon problem. Its a source problem that still needs to be fixed.

It works on stock CM10, so as long as you're not using a different theme than the one it already came with, such as say, ThyrusHolo, then you shouldn't have a problem getting that icon :]

Not sure but is it possible that your system apk throttled my data speeds? Ever since replacing it I can't seem to get faster speeds than 3G.

It shouldn't have. All it changed was an image.

That is weird...I can't get faster than 500kb on speedtest, before that it was going 3-7mb on 4G. I also checked my data usage im still at 60% for my month, so its not throttled down.

If you made a copy of your original SystemUI, reinstall that one and see what it does.

Download the zip of the build you''re using once again, go to system/app get the SystemUI.apk and then move it to your phone, simple flx.

I don't believe it would, or at least it shouldn't.
It's a simple change, same as applying a theme to the SystemUI apk doesn't change data speeds.

If you are ever wondering if you are no longer on 4g after you install this just change signal display to text and it will tell you the strength of the network

No it will not

I added this last night, works great. When I'm curious about real network strength I just change network icon to text in Settings - System - Status Bar. Nicely done

I get 4G basically everywhere I go with the exception of when I'm at home so this works nicely for me.

Just did a speed test on open signal and it showed up as 3g. max I got download was 3.2mbps. Ima just switch back over. Id hate to pay for 4g and only getting 3g speeds.
