My replacement glass pane arrived yesterday, so I'm getting ready to tear this thing apart and replace that cracked sucker. Here's my question: do you guys think it would be a good idea to unroot/back to stock before I do this?

Here's my logic: if I get it back together and I screwed up the hardware somehow, I would probably have a better chance of maintaining my warranty with a stock/unrooted phone and a pristine screen.

Obviously, performing the maintenance that I'm doing also voids the warranty, but I'm hoping to have a clean install. I just figure that having stock firmware loaded before anything catastrophic happens would be a good idea?

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

I do not have insurance, if you haven't figured that out already

couldnt hurt to flash back to stock before doing it. If you make a nandroid you can easily get back to your current setup. Better to be safe than sorry I guess

i mean, look at the payoffs

you don't revert to stock, something screws up, they don't replace it
you do revert, something screws up, they fix it
or you do revert, it goes fine and you take an extra five minutes to reroot...

i'd say the 5 minutes are worth it

that sounds good except for the warranty void stickers you will have to remove/rip to take the droid apart. once they see those are gone/damaged youll get charged retail.

i dont think some vzw rep will be checking, more likely a moto tech who actualls knows his hand from his foot.

some users are so ignorant. i think they'll know by sight inspection that you took the phone apart. some of the pieces of the droid are simply glued on. they'll know.

This is what I figured. However, with that slim chance of actually having a lazy tech look it over, I might just revert to stock anyway.

Well, wish me luck, here we go....

Best of luck in getting it back together without the need for any outside intervention! Failing that, best of luck in receiving adequately inattentive outside intervention!

ebay, actually, but I think I got the only one available anywhere as of right now.

On that note, I went into the verizon store yesterday and sweet-talked my way into insurance coverage. They didn't even look at my phone or confirm that it was working. In 30 days, I'll be able to make a claim and get the screen replaced.

So, on that note, who needs a new screen? I'll likely be putting the one I bought back up on ebay....

Actually, the phone still works wonderfully. I have a phantomskin on the screen, and the cracking is minimal. The point of impact was near the top corner/right edge of the bezel, and there's literally no loss in touch function.

My goal is to sell the replacement I got for more than the cost of the insurance deductible. We'll see what happens...
