Report on latest firmware L3

For all those worried about whether or not L3 will work in Europe, worry no more. I have had the ROM installed on my phone for approximately two weeks here in Austria and have had no problems thus far.

With regards to the Keyboard issue, the ROM has samsung IME included and was installed along with the ROM. I have the suspicion that when everything is loaded to the phone, including CSC, the keyboard is loaded after the install scripts are executed

Me? Yeah, but that was a while ago. I just reinstalled it, and it's certainly improved. It's still missing my native dictionary, which "Scandinavian Keyboard" does include. I'll try this for a spot, it may just be superior. Thanks for the heads-up!

I have included some screenshots of the keyboard that came with the L3 Firmware. I used Odin to flash my device and used all of the files including the CSC. However I did not do a factory reset after the update and I seem to have gotten the correct keyboard. The only problem is that there is no predictive text for English or German but this is not a problem for me as I never use it as I switch between the two languages frequently

Is there any place to get the full list of APN's? I found out that mine is empty, so I was not connecting to 3G.... had to manually input the 3 APN for my carrier, so I would like to have an automated way of doing this...

You can get the MNC and MCC from Wikipedia's article on Mobile Network Code (the APN page also contains external references, but to rather poor lists). The hosts for mms and such are a little harder to come by, but I found them (so search thoroughly and you shall be rewarded).

I already found them... what I wanted is an easy and automated way of doing it... doing it by hand is rather cumbersome... I wonder which part I failed to do correctly so that the APN list would be on...

I'm sure you did everything right.

APNs are wonky on the Galaxy ... sometimes they go missing ... sometimes they come back after a reboot ... sometimes they're working.

Just upgraded from IK4 to IL3, what a difference. This is the fastest and most stable firmware I've tried since II5. Using processor taxing apps like co-pilot live is back to being useful again. Can't believe I stuck with IK4 for so long!

Okay, so now I've updated to L3, reinstalled drakaz' Recovery (v4.4), and restored my nandroid backup. It seems that I have all my apps and settings, and the firmware is L3.

So far so good!

Now let's see how this thing performs over the next few days...

There were a few minor issues with IK4 that really bugged me which have been fixed with IL3 - but to be fair I don't think its a huge advance over II5. Oh - and working out how to set the language back to English involved some fun trial and error menu pressing!

Have you turned it back on from your Settings yet?

Yup, I did that but still no landscape.
Then I just flashed K5 and upgraded to L3 again.
Now it works, it seems like something was broken in the first attempt.

Felt adventurous and just flashed IL3 on my mobile. Feels very very snappy coming from IK4. And the Lock Key responds much better. More to come as and when I restore my contacts and settings back and start using it...

I am also from India, I am curious if you were able to update to any of custom ROM. I have the fresh galaxy. My mobile shows as Software version (BASEBAND VERSION) : I7500DDII3. is II5 the next update ?

I can confirm that 3D acceleration is not working on L3. Fixed it with root + libhgl.so though.

Thanks for hte heads up. It now does everything flawlessly, just what I expected to experience when I got the phone in August...not 6 months after I got the phone

Strange though that IK4 or 5 do have 3D libhgl.so, and L3 not. However it is perfectly fixeable with the libghl instructions from the sticky.
