How hard would it be to port CM7 to the connect?

One of the features I wish we had was the ability to change the toggles in the notification bar.

I've read on some forums that replacing certain folder would do the trick:

    /data
    /system/app
    /system/framework
    /system/fonts
    /system/media

    Is it really that simple?

Sorry to burst your bubble (and I'm not trying to be rude either) but don't you think that if it was really that simple another user would have ported it already?

LOL yeah you're right. I just saw a few guides on how to do it. Doesn't seem that complicated. I have no android knowledge so i can't say.

This was part of the guide i found:

one could only wish it were that simple lol.

And thats what I call a dirty port, porting a ROM for one device to another. it can be done that way, but its never 100% because its not build for the specific device in most cases. Cookers get lucky some times if the devices are very similar from the same manufacturer, etc. Its does take a lil skill and patients, but not really doing anything but drag n drop files from one ROM to another aka 'cookers'. What we all do with the stock roms is cooking. Dev's build from src, cookers work with precompiled stuff, themers make it all look purdy. ;)

Ok I see. So it is possible to port that way, but it will most likely be filled with bugs, if it even works at all.

Yea its dont that way alot, not sure of the exact steps as I refuse to do dirty ports lol, or cook CM* etc, but thats how alot of devices get some many ROMs available for em, they have tons of cookers lol

Ok I get it. You'll rather do it right than the "easy way". Anyway, we would need an almost identical device with a working CM7 right?

  8. This sounds like something Walt from Breaking Bad would say

thats the closest LG I know of, or the Nitro, both of which have better displays, all 3 in the iproj codename family.

Couldn't the LG Nitro help for CM9? It has ICS.

Did everyone forget that sprint and Verizon both have phones damn near identical to the connect? (viper and lucid) spectrum is dif screen size

already ahead of ya ;) the repo for the connect will most likely get based off our spectrum repo
yea Sprint did sumtin weird with the viper, Spectrum has a 4.5 screen n and is HD-IPS. Lucid doesnt have jack for it afaik.

Spectrum has BO & BP ROMs n CM9 in the works.

  18. yahhboy

Yeah but those are the connects siblings, porting from the spectrum will be quite difficult.

not really, they all in the same family, that being LG's codename iproj. SHould be easy compared to starting from scratch. ;)

I am helping with the spectrums CM9 ;)

The viper and lucid have been confirmed for ICS update by both LG and carrier. If I come around to it before you I'll send you a pm of it mate.

why would metro be saying the lucid n viper are getting ics???? lol

The thing is will the be locked down when their ota's drop. The spectrum is due its ics ota very soon too ;) But its leaks have been locked down n a pitfa to do anything with other than root. ;)
