Uggggh wasted half my day trying to root my Sprint Hero... Anyone out there that can give some advise? I have latest official Sprint RUU.... I tried to downgrade, no go... I tried gold card method and failed as well. Am I screwed if I have the official 2.1 installed?

no you aren't screwed, you can root with 2.1 installed. you say you have the latest RUU, have you taken the OTA update to .6? I'm guessing so..

try downloading this RUU for 2.1 (second post in this thread) [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers

and then revert just like you upgraded from 1.5 a few months back. from there you should be able to follow those instructions to gain root access.

Ok, so I was able to downgrade. But now I am running in to a separate issue. When I get to the step where I type "adb push unrevoked /sdcard" in cmd, I get an error that reads "cannot stat 'unrevoked': No such file or directory" My phone is in charge only mode with debugging enabled...

(in that same link I sent you to over at xda)-you should pay close attention to step 2 and step 5. I would assume this is the reason for your error. (the files must not be in the correct directory)
