Folks - was trying to clear an irritating issue where my Desire kept putting itself into standby after a few seconds. I wanted to return to stock, and was using the RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread) to do this. It ran, but failed - with ERROR [152]

The phone screen then shows the usual - 4 exclamation marks. When unplugged, it shows:

    AlphaRev CM7 r2
    Bravo PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
    HBOOT-6.93.1002
    MICROP-851d
    TOUCH PANEL -SYNT0101
    RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
    Aug 10 2010, 17:52:18

    RUU
    [1] RADIO_V2 - OK
    [2] SPLASH - OK
    [3] RECOVERY - OK
    [4] SPLASH2 - OK
    [5] RADIO_CUST - OK
    [6] BOOTLOADER - Bypassed
    [7] USERDATA - OK
    [8] SYSTEM - Fail-PU
    [9] BOOT - OK
    Partition update fail!
    Update fail!

And I can go no further. Can't boot into bootloader.

Any ideas? And why is it still showing AlphaRev at the start - doesn't the RUU overwrite that?

Your Alpharev hboot is write protected & not compatible with the stock Rom.

You need to flash the alpharev downgrade hboot in fastboot before you run the RUU.

When you run the RUU the downgrade hboot will be overwritten & the System (ROM) will then fit onto the updated hboot.

[That's helpful, and makes sense - but I can't access fastboot on the phone - although when it boots to the 'four exclamation marks' it seems able to receive from the PC. Can I flash the downgrade hboot from the PC?]

Please ignore stupidity revealed in this post. Did the suggested, and flashed hboot downgrade. And this time it actually worked! Thanks for the help, guys.

Or flash the alpharev "bravo stock" hboot. That is compatible with the stock ROM, but you'll still be S-Off so can easily root again if you want.

If for any reason you can't fastboot flash the hboot then try downloading the PB99IMG version of it from alpharev.nl, copying it to sd (will need a card reader, as you've lost your custom recovery), rename to PB99IMG.zip (exactly that, case sensitive), put it back in your phone and reboot. The phone should then ask whether you want to install it, and that will update the bootloader.

But try fastboot flashing the .img first - I think it should work in that mode even though it doesn't say "fastboot" on the screen. After all, the RUU will work in that mode.
