    hi

    i followed this tutorial tonight:

    http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...od-rooting-prevail-dummies-written-dummy.html

it was very helpful. Thanks again Caeadas. i backed up my sd card to my computer before doing anything like it said and i partitioned the sd card. im confused tho what the easiest way is to restore my data from my folder on my computer that had the contents of my sd card? i didn't want to use mybackup from Google cause i saw there was a pro version and i didn't want to pay for it. the reason i didn't go for the free version was that there was a 30 day limit if i recall. anyway is there anyway i can restore my data from the sd card folder on my computer? or do i simply copy and paste the folders? if that's what i do how do i know which files and folders to copy? thanks in advance.

Yup copy/paste (everything, if possible... Since your unsure what is what)
    But DCIM is pictures
.Android secure its app data (licenses i think)
    MUSIC is music
    Downloads is stuff you downloaded
    Most is self explanatory...

    hello Lordvincent

thanks for the quick reply man. appreciate it.

that's what i figured that you just copy and paste everything. but i wasn't sure if something would conflict by doing that. do you know if that's possible? cause like i said i just rooted my phone (actually my 2nd time - rooted to FA19 tonite from a different root think it was EJ09) and i wasn't sure if that was possible. if you happen to know let me know pal.

    thanks in advance.

You're good. Nothing will conflict. (never has for me, and i have had stuff on my card(s) since shabbymod and upgraded to a new card since with no ill effects)

Android will rebuild all the folders it needs, so don't worry too much about copying anything if theres already a folder there. The only things you should be concerned with is stuff you put there, like pictures, music, ringtones, etc.

I always resync my music using winamp (PC version) since drag/dropping a lot of folders tends to get a bit messy. Either take your time, or stick everything you want to move into a single folder and move it, otherwise you will have a ton of stupid dialog boxes all over your desktop.

If you were using some sort of apps to SD program before you switched to CTmod, you should probably skip copying the apps over, best to reinstall them. You can copy your titanium backup stuff over and use it, but don't restore system data.

1.i thought that too until i found out that handcent stores my pics from texts inside a folder inside the handcent folder (deleted a bunch of things i could not get back)

2.not everyone has wifi to redownload their music, and (in my case 5gb) it can take FOREVER even with wifi

3.you can multi-select your folders and drag them all at once

4 he JUST rooted it so probably no apps2sd

    5. Windows can't see the partition with your apps (if using apps2sd type setup), its Linux format. and isn't included when you copy the files from the vfat partition (part windows can see)

    hey guys

thanks for providing more info. i had two more questions if you don't mind...

one is how do i flash CWM? im trying to do Bloodawn's removed apps back to /system/app. located here

    http://androidforums.com/3580675-post777.html

i tried K9 an didn't like it. so i wanna use the default email program Android supplied again. sorry for the newb question. i tried booting into cwm and install from zip but i don't think it worked. can't find it on my android after rebooting.

my second question is when i was trying to figure that out in CWM my finger slipped and i pressed a button i didn't realize i did and now all my stuff that i put back in FA19 is gone. the stuff from my SD Card i mean. CTMod's stuff is still there. i must've eraseed it. thankfully tho, its still on my actual sd card in windows explorer. what happened? do you guys know what i can do?

regarding apps2sd i have been using bookmark programs for that (but don't work right) and astro file manager. but if i have to start over i shall just reinstall them from scratch. guess i'll need to clean up some folders if i do that on the sd card in explorer to free up room eh?

sorry for the newb questions. i'm learning more and more each day.

    Download this
    http://db.tt/MwZF3Q7a

Its based on bloods apk installer

Open it as an archive (do not extract the files)
    Go into the system folder
Drag the apps you want to install into the system folder and save
    Place on Sdcard
    Boot into recovery (cwm)
    Select 'install zip from sdcard'
    Select 'choose zip from sdcard'
    Locate BadA$$apkinstaller
    Select it.
    Select yes.

Also regarding moving apps to sdcard, read
    http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?t=429740
Kouma kernel comes with ctmod and the link has all the info regarding it... If you can't get it after that, there are tons of people here that would more than happy to help you understand (including myself) :)

Ugh, i can't do ANYTHING right today...

I'm sure there's tons of apps that save stuff on the SD card. What i meant was the stuff android puts on there by default probably doesn't need to be copied.

Winamp (windows PC version) can sync to mp3 player, including android smartphones, through USB, just like itunes with ipods. Build a playlist, connect your phone, press sync. I don't use winamp for android, its too much like the stock player. I prefer poweramp, its most like the old-school mp3 players i used to have. My music collection is organized by artist folders, with album folders inside. Its hard to multi-select like that. And try to drag/drop twenty separate folders to an SD card, it sucks.

You're probably right about the last part, I wasn't sure about apps to SD, i never really used it much. I do know that someone recently had issues with symlinks causing force closes on a new KK install.

If you went through the guide, made the second SD-ext partition, and switched koumamod to data, then koumakernel tricks the phone into thinking your SD-ext is internal memory. All you have to do is install stuff, no other apps or file managers are necessary. To check, just go to settings/applications/storage use, and check the little bar at the bottom. if it shows ~200mb total then its not right. if it shows a lot more, around what you made the SD-ext partition, then you're good. For example my internal memory shows 150mb used, 1.7 gb free :)

    hi guys.

thank you so much for continuning to help me out. i will try out the advice you give me. but there's one thing i need help with first. i messed up today with superuser and i think i may need to redo everything from scratch so i wanna know how to solve it before doing the advice you guys gave me about the other stuff.

i was checking out the various apps that is on CTMOD3.5 kernal kk-2.5. and i clicked on superuser. and when i initially opened it there was two apps listed there. one i don't remember the name of (maybe CTMOD or something? sorry) and the other that's still there is KoumaMod. the one i don't remember the name of i clicked on to check out the info on it and i accidentally dragged it to trash! i know it was really dumb on my part. :(
my finger slipped. can anyone please tell me if there's a way to bring it back or do i have to start from scratch? and lastly should i keep Koumamod status allowed?

i hope im not trying anyones patience with these questions. but iike i said i am slowly learning how to use this new rooted phone. thanks in advance.

Did you delete the app or just delete the entry from super user?

If your phone is running fine I would just leave it be with out restoring everything. You probably just removed the entry from Superuser. If it needs SU access again it will ask. I would also allow Koumamod to have SU access too.

Download a app called Titanium Backup, and back up all your apps and settings. That way if you accidentally delete something again you can easily restore it. It will save you a lot of headache. If you find yourself in a situation where you deleted something and didn't know what it was. Titanium backup will list all apps not installed but backed up at the very bottom.

awesome news. do you know possibly what the name of the deleted entry was tho? ctmod?

ok i will download Titanium Backup. i heard of that app. but the reason why i didn't get it yet was i thought i read somewhere that there were issues or something with it. like wiht some mods or something. can't remember. if you know anything about that let me know pal.

I couldn't tell you what entry was deleted. Its not a big deal, cause if it needs access again it will ask you.

Titanium Back will cause issues if you flash a new or updated rom and try to use it to restore all your apps back again. This mainly occurs just with system apps. I use it all the time to restore game data after a fresh install. I install the user apps back manually and have TB restore the user data.

Or you can restore the CWM sd-ext from a backup. You will lose your data but still restore the apps. I've had better luck using this method restoring all of my apps when restoring to the same ROM. Titanium backup can act funny sometimes.

CWM is superior in restoring the apps no doubt. I suggested TB mainly for the visual reference in accidentally deleting a app.

hey. got a quick question. can i delete the zip files that are in the main section of my sd card in windows explorer? after i use them i mean? i am keeping a backup tho of all the stuff i download (root related) on my computer. here's some examples of what i am talking about:

    CTMod3.5.zip
    KoumaKernel2.5_CWM.zip
    SixaxisPairToolSetup-0.2.3.exe

of course i already installed the first two and they are of the biggest size in the main section of my sd card. but the sixaxis one i still have to use. i just wanna know if i can delete it after i am done installing it.

my bad for not getting back to you sooner on this. i was tired when i initially got this memo and didn't do what you instructed that day. i tried opening this zip in both winrar and 7zip as an archive and went into the system folder but there was no files in there. was these files intended for Linux or something is that why they don't appear? i am running win7 x64. please let me know pal.
