Hi, grateful for any advice to retrieve my files from lost.dir folder, most of these are photos with the odd MP4. I've tried many things but none are working. Even tried ES file explorer and renaming extension to .jpg but no luck. I've heard of software such as EaseUS but not sure on success or review of such data recovery softwares.

This happened whilst transferring files from phone memory to micro SD card.

I've seen the old post on here about using ES file explorer and renaming batch and extension, but this didn't work.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ hope someone can help. Most of these are family photos.

Did you check the integrity of the micro-SD, to make sure it's not duff or fake? Possibly the files you found were truncated or corrupted. What are the file sizes of the .JPG files? If it's only 1k or something, then you won't be able to do anything with them, as the data is just gone.

Genuine Samsung SD card. All the files in lost.dir are over 3mb and even over 100mb as there are also videos. But of course they don't have file extensions and I have tried to rename with jpg and MP4 extension but the files just open up in gallery with an exclamation mark so aren't being read properly. I'm sure there must be a solution this can't be a new thing.

Install vlc player for playing videos. The gallery or default video player is garbage

Thanks for the suggestion, but I need to get the files recognized first. Renaming extension to jpg for photos should allow them to open in the phones gallery so they are viewable, but that doesn't happen either

Just renaming the files may not work.
They may just be corrupt and unusable

How can you establish for sure if they are corrupt or unstable?

    I'm not establishing anything.
They MAY be corrupt since no video player will play them.

obviously they might be corrupt, but i'm trying to reach out for help or a solution assuming they are not corrupt.
