I installed modacco's r9 ROM and chose the brut modifies the maps app. however I don't see how it has added anything. I want to revert to the stock maps application so I can get updates through the market etc... is it possible to do this without having to reinstall the Rom all over again?

It is but its harder and longer. click my name and go to statistics Look for a thread I started called how to easily remove system apps.

However if you install the Rom over itself with the file removed from system/app in the zip you already have, its so quick and other than the removed app, you've lost nothing.

Obviously either method, do a nandroid backup first

Will I need to replace it with the stock maps app?

Will I loose all my data like usual? I normally have to reinstall all my apps after doing a new Rom.

It's the same rom, just don't choose to do a wipe when you install.

No don't replace. Download from market

So if I do a titanium backup then a backup from Rom manager. Then choose to install my modified Rom from Rom manager? Sound about right?

Wouldn't bother with titanium at this point. Just do the rom manager backup, edit the zip to remove the brut maps from system/app, and flash it like normal, all your other apps will remain. If it does go wrong, restore via rom manager.

Sounds like it Is still on There somewhere. I have 2apks pm mine with the maps icon. One called maps.apk and something starting com.Google something. Can't see the whole file name. Use root explorer or android mate to browse the directory and have a look

Ok I got that sorted. I tried all sorts to get it working but in the end cooked up a new rom with the original maps app on it and reflashed that one with clear all data...

The issue I have now is that my phone seems to get stuck on the sync. Even if i switch off auto sync the little sync arrows are turning in my notifcation bar and it never goes away. If i open up accounts and sync i have the option to cancel sync. This does stop the sync and pressing sync now completes a sync just fine. But then leave the phone for a bit and it starts to sync again and stays like it still. Auto sync is still switched off!

    What could be the issue?

Seems to be something about the calendar. When I clear the data of the "calendar storage" the syncing stops.

But then it starts again a bit later and it is the same problem.

Actually a few more issues seem to be arrising. I can't install any apps because it says i have no space available. So I am going to try and wipe everything and start from scratch.

How do I make sure everything is wiped? The only thing I want to keep over is my text messages.

I have a working solution to your previous problem. I have updated an effective method to remove brut Maps.
