That's the beauty of android! You just create a folder on your SD card called ringtones, and place the files you want as ringtones in it ;)

Unrelated, but has anyone found a good version of Notify_ChiGong? I love it on the Blackberry, but all I have found online have been poor imitations.

After playing around with my phone so much I find myself wondering, "Why can't my laptop and my Xbox be as cool as Android?"

    Attach it to your computer.

Go to the Android Notifications and click on USB (I forget the exact wording)

    Mount the USB Drive

Change whatever you want using the PC... Add directories, music, graphics etc.

Eject the drive (on PC) making it safe to disconnect.

Unmount on the Android (in the Notifications).

There is also software to do it on the Android directly... Look for file managers.

It should be easy enough to port it to any computer... but the thing I like are the touch screen methods, so it would take a more expensive netbook than I have, if any are available with touch screens

Ir you can get the iPad and suffer through the differences. ;)

You can also use Astro file manager to make folders, move files, backup apps

That is the best I could find too... Is the blackberry's speaker a lot better than the Hero's??? It just doesn't sound as rich and deep as the one on the Blackberry...

EDIT: Correction, it is a little better than what I had before... but still missing the richness.

Alright gang, I can make my default ringtone an MP3, however, I cannot assign individual ringtones to my contacts. Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong? I do know that they worked in 1.5, but they didn't work in 2.1 or Fresh 2.1.2. Thanks for reading.

  15. I second that, except PC and Xbox.

  16. You have to go to people, then click the contact that you want to assign the ringtone to. Scroll down, it should say Ringtone with a little drop down arrow. Click it and Pick it.

In my contacts, there is a place to choose a ringtone for each individual contact right on the bottom of the contact screen. (fresh 2.1.2)

See, I know that. After I do that, and someone calls me, I still only get the default. I thought I might have had a bad sd card, but the new one has the same effect.

make sure your folders go as follows...

    sdcard/media/ringtones

    all lowercase.

put all subfolders (ringtones, notifications, alarms, etc) in the media folder

Yep. That's where they are. No, really, they're in there. I don't know why they're not working. When I try to assign them, I chose the ringtone, it plays, and then I click on the save. Just not understanding why it doesn't work.

  21. What messaging app are you using? The default? or a different one?

Handcent. But it's incoming calls that don't work.

  23. Oh right, duh. Well... I dunno man, it works on mine... Worked before i rooted and now that i have. I'm running fresh 2. There has to be a reason for it though... when you change your default ringer does it change it? What about your notification ringer? Is it just the specific tones that wont play right?

Once you assign it and you are done are you scrolling to the bottom of your people and making sure you hit SAVE

  25. There's no save button when i change my ringtone. After i select it for a certain person it will take a second but it'll change the ringer from defauilt to whatever i just picked. Hey when you select the ringer try waiting a second and see what happens. Make sure the phone recognizes your request. See if that works.
