This is fantastic news! I picked the Dream because of the keyboard, and was told by the Rogers staff it was the same as the Magic. @RogersMary thanks for the work, and thanks to the folks in this forum who have worked so hard for this.
Any ideas if the upgrade to Sense UI for the Magic or the upgrade to 2.1 will include the ability to play Flash Video? They say it is available on the Hero / Sense device...
That is why I picked the Dream, but once I got the soft keyboard working on it, I find I can type just as fast on it as the hard keyboard. I find I use the soft keyboard more than the other now. Had I known the Magic was the better of the two, I would have gone with that.

Here is the reply I _finally_ got from LG. Sounds like HTC all over again. -----------Reply to Customer Enquiry------------ Hello Thank you for contacting LG Customer service. Just got a tweet back from @lgcanada. I'm fairly sure that I'm just being quoted the user available memory, I sent a tweet back asking if they are telling me total ram or user available ram. I'll post back with reply when I get one, took a couple of days for the last answer. gbd
Hi Everyone: Here are the details of the HTC Dream to Magic upgrade that Rogers announced Friday: --Current Rogers customers who activated a new Rogers HTC Dream through Dec. 31, 2009 - either through upgrade or a new activation - may upgrade that device to an HTC Magic for a limited time. --Upgrades must be done through Customer Care (1-888-Rogers1) or through Rogers.com (existing 3yr data plan required for online upgrades, instructions below). This special upgrade offer does not apply at retail. --This limited-time upgrade is available between January 12 and January 26 only. --The $79 upgrade cost of the device, plus the $35 administration fee are being waived. Customers who choose to take advantage of this offer get a $599 phone for $0 with the renewal of a three-year term from the date of the upgrade (For most customers, this will represent a contract extension of seven months or less). --The upgrade is completely optional. Customers who choose to can stick with their HTC Dreams and remain in their current contracts. If you run into any problems with this upgrade, please contact the @RogersHelps team. Why is Rogers doing this upgrade? Simply put, we're committed to our Android phones and Android customers. Although we pushed HTC to provide a 2.1 OS upgrade for the Magic, they could not do so for the Dream device due to memory limitations. We knew we had to help our customers with this one-time limited-time offer. We'd like to thank all our customers for their patience and hope you continue to enjoy your Rogers Android experience. To upgrade your device through Rogers.com, you must have an existing 3-year data plan. Otherwise, please call Customer Care at 1-888-Rogers1: --Go to http://www.rogers.com --Log in to your account through MyRogers --Follow the Upgrade My Phone link Thanks, Mary
Works great through the Rogers site. Just ordered my Brand New Magic!!!! And as a bonus they are throwing in a $50.00 mail-in rebate so I'm getting paid to get the phone. Ya baby!! Special thanks to @RogersMary and to all the customer support team at Rogers for coming up with a win win solution to our mutual problem. gbd
What a crock of S**T. I have just gotten word from the OotP that are willing to do nothing for us LG Eve owners. I won't show the whole email but here is a small chunk of the conversion I have had with D'Arcy. "Once again, I do appreciate your continued frustration. I know that your primary request is not to have new hardware, but it is the only work around/option we can offer at this time. I do have my voicemail set most of the time, as for the most part I am on the phone throughout the day, so I do apologize that it has been hard to get a hold of me. I appreciate that you wish to discuss this further as per your request, but again, there is nothing further to be brought to the table "so to speak" that can change our position on this particular issue. Should you wish to contact LG regarding the OS updates, please contact them at 1- (800) 243-0000 or please refer to their website at LG Welcome to LG Customer Service & Support. as this will not be an escalation that I can action further in our office." I have tried calling but don't want to wait for her to call me back. All that I have asked her to do, is to lean on LG the same way they leaned on HTC. WOW, it sucks being screwed over. And btw, I have emailed LG to no avail. I now have to find time to call them to get the run around...fun!
On that note, I propose an "Android Win!" meetup at a bar somewhere downtown Toronto to celebrate the first stage victory! For those not in or around Toronto, worry not we will down a few in your name as well! Who's in?
LOL! I was thinking the same thing. I'm in. Too bad our brethren across CDA can't come! We can broadcast via QIK on our Android phones. ;-) @RogersMary should come too.
Just tell me when and I'll sit down with a beer (or maybe a good scotch) at home and twitter with all the Toronto folks. gbd
@RogersMary First, - Thank you and your team for all your efforts. Second, Some questions (That I hope will not be ignored) - Is this official (see bold text in quote)? - Have you and your teams discussed LG Eve upgrade options? - Have you talked to LG and tried to push for some type of upgrade - And if not, would you be extending the same offer to "LG Eve Owners"?
