Rolling back Google Maps

My tablet came with version 7 pre-installed.I hate it and want to use version 6.14.4 instead.
Unfortunately there's no option to uninstall,just disable.
I tried that but it still won't let me install the old version apk.

Am I stuck with it or is there another way ?

BTW if the other way involves rooting it's no good to me as I use Sky Go which doesn't work on rooted devices

Look under "the 10 worst disasters of the 21st century" and you'll find Google Maps on there somewhere. I use Mapquest instead. You could probably spend days (or weeks) cleaning out all last vestiges of Maps and get a 6.14 apk installed, but try Mapquest first (it's free) and if you like it you've saved a lot of wasted effort.
