So I just rooted my 2.3.3 evo 4g using revolutionary. I used this tutorial (How to Root Your HTC EVO 4G (with OTA Gingerbread Update)), in case anyone was wondering.

From what I read one of the first things you should do is make a nandroid. So i downloaded ROM manager (v4.3.3.0).

When I go into the app, the first thing I see is Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. What exactly is this?

Is the next step for me to just click on "Backup current ROM"?.

I also read some places that I shouldn't use ROM Manager but should backup manually. Does anyone have an opinion about this?

    i have an opinion... :)
do not use rom manager and switch to amon ra recovery...
manually flashing your roms is more stable....
    amon ra is more stable...
get amon ra recovery 2.3 HERE
then use amon to nandroid and flash your roms...
    IMHO

yes do not use rom manager. it is way to buggy and will create more issues then you want. like 9to5 said amon ra2.3 is a much better recovery then clockwork mod.

read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html it has a section on how to switch recoveries and make a nandroid backup with amon ra.

Thanks ocnbrze and esthernrob. It seems that that I already had the file for amon ra. I'm creating a nandroid with it right now!

Should I just delete rom manger? Does it matter that I made a previous backup already using Rom Manager? Should I delete the nandroid made with Rom Manager?

If I wanted to use the nandroid created by amom ra, how would I access it?

i would delete rom manager. you are not going to be needing it any more. and the same goes for the nandorid backup with rom manger. the nandroid backup is saved in the nandroid folder on your card. to restore a nandroid backup with amon ra go to backup and restore and select restore.

i would also recommend that you have one nandroid backup with wimax selected and have it in a safe place like your computer. that way if you somehow loose your wimax keys you will have it on your computer.

Actually I found that CWM was storing its nandroids in a CWM folder. I don't know how this compares to rom manager but something to take note of.
