i just downloaded rom manager , but seems a bit complicated at the mo ,
it also shows you can download and instal custom roms , has anyone tried this , and are they any good, as in can you get leedroid and gingerbread etc , im a bit wary of using it at the mo

I don't personally use it - I find it easier to download the ROMs from XDA and install them through Clockwork Recovery.

+4 Used to use it, but it seems better to just do everything through recovery (which is easy, famous last words :D )

Actually the clockworkmod available from Rom manager is the last version compiled by the dev. All the others are by someone else, using his source

I used to use it, but the roms it listed weren't good.

I have it installed as a general "just in case" given that I've got the room on my phone. If space was getting a bit tight, though, I'd most likely bin it.

Flashed as part of my rom. Never used it for ages. The last time was when I created an ext partition.......before I knew any better ;)

+11 rom manager is very unreliable and out of date. Believe me once you get the hang of flashing through recovery you'll realise just how easy it is so give it go!

I find it quite convenient for backups (or did I miss any shortcomings on behalf of rm?), but I agree that one should flash straight thru recover.

boot to recovery only takes a few seconds and all rom manager does is boot to recovery and do that anyway

+12, tried it, didn't like it, got rid of it.

I also flash through recovery rather than ROM Manager itself.
