Is 2.13 referring to the baseband version?
2.13.651.1 refers to the overall rom, in this case, the latest ota.
You still have to flash radio separately if needed. (Will leave that bit for Rxpert83 )
It seems Mean is moving further away from a stock experience. It used to be just useful little tweaks but now is going into a full blown highly tweaked rom with its own custom kernel. This seems to be causing some problems and putting those who upgrade back to being beta testers.
When I first started mean at 1.9 it worked well and ran fine. By the time I got to 3.1 I started running into lag problems. Sometimes the phone would just sit there for a couple seconds not responding to any on screen inputs. Even turning the pages it would lag up. I could power it off then on and it would get back to its original state. That is not something I have had to do with android in over 2 years though. This was after a 2 full wipes and re-installs of version 3.1.
Of course I was hoping for better in 3.2 but I could not get it to flash with the new Kernel and by the time I had updated everything to make my phone capable of flashing I saw it to was having its own sets of problems.
I am on Fresh rom now which is very close to stock but doesn't get updated very frequently so I don't know when to expect the latest sprint release to get updated into Fresh rom.
What I am looking for is a rom that mean started out as that is basically stock with just a little amount of usefull tweaks that I will not have any problems with lag, 4g, pictures, etc and will get updates soon after their release.
well i have not tried the mean rom yet. but i'm on http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/592925-rom-viper4g-1-0-0-a.html and i love it so far. i will give this rom a go as i need to catch up on some of these roms that are out.
If they are not on H-boot 1.12 they can't flash radios.
The only way to get the updated radios would be to run the RUU, but then you get the new H-boot as well
Yeah but you flash Roms all the time. You have to relate to guys like recoil and I. I don't need all these tweaks and nightlys. There are a ton of nice things in the version I have and the only issues I've had are the default over clock, which is IMO, stupid and not needed.
The reason I root and get Roms is to make my phone work as smooth, energy efficient and bloat free as possible. I don't care to flash Roms all the time, in fact once a month is more than enough for me.
I understand your concerns. Not everyone has time to flash things all the time. The OTA feature is supposed to take care of guys like yourselves. No wiping, no re-setting everything back up. All you would have to do is flash the stock OC mod after upgrading and you're back up and running in 2-3 minutes.
Android 4.0.4 and sense4.1 bring big changes to the kernel. Its more efficient with the memory management and overall snappier. Most people are happier with it.
I'm don't mean to pressure anyone to upgrade. Feel free to tell me to shove it (within the forum rules of course )
I like to think that it all stems from the different devs' philosophies, or approaches, not sure of the word.
BTW, the following is just my opinion based on using some stuff. Your views may vary and are every bit as valid as mine if not more so.
Mike has always been about tweaking for his vision of a max Sense performance rom, yet still providing flexibility via auxiliary packages/mods. If you like getting your flash on, you'll love being a Meanie.
The Viper4G team is set on basic stock, but with the easiest path to customize look and feel, and perform basic maintenance (cache cleaning, zip aligning, permissions), and cleaning out hidden cruft like temp files on reboot. If you want a conservative Sense approach, with few updates to mess with, but better than stock performance with the fun of themes and no steep learning curve and no digging through forum threads to see if something works, Viper4G is for you.
If you want a less conservative Sense approach with the bloatware fully removed, but not the edge for the Meanies, then CleanRom is probably a choice to consider, despite it being less popular in our subforum. That, like flipz Fresh Rom, deserves attention.
And then there are the high performance, other hybrid / partially de-Sensed roms like freeza's to consider.
I started out wanting to make comments on two roms, and got carried away.
Guides, if you want to start a thread to describe roms and want to pull this out of here and use it in any way, including kanging so we can delete this post as off-topic for the Meanies, fine by me, drop me a line for the delete.
Because we haven't even gotten to AOSP here!
I didnt realize that! Good thing I left that part in your capable hands, for sure.
Thanks for the save! (thumbs up!)
So is anyone running the latest version of this ROM with no OC'ing and no issues? I'm on 1.6 still, 2.x didn't ever really offer much reason to upgrade for me. I was totally unaware of a new OTA coming out until i read this thread again. Wow, sucks getting old and busy, i need to keep up more...
I was a Meanie on my 3D, Mike does a good job!
I'm on this ROM right now. I left the OC settings that Mikey included though.
Now that I check it out guys... this has the stock kernel and stock settings... no OC
....with that being said, this is a NEW stock kernel. So if your h-boot 1.15 you'll need to fastboot flash it
I could do the AOSP ROMS if you wanted to round up the sense ones. Any others you've missed?
If not I'll just use what you wrote for the sense ones
Let's do it and let user experience rule in an open thread. I know that I missed plenty.
Could be a great sticky!
I know I'm very late here but I think I know why people are having trouble getting certain kernal tweaks to stick. mikey has a sleeping and awakening profile built into his postboot script. so when the phone is 'sleeping' he has certain kernel tweaks built in for the ondemand and interactive governor. then when it is in 'awakenings' he has it set to reset the values for those governors. so, when you set a certain value, say overclock to 1.89 or whatever, and you're using the ondemand (or interactive) governor, when your phone goes into 'awakenings' the values will get reset to the values he has in the postboot script. if you want them to stick, you need to change the awake max and min values in system/ect/init.qcom.post_boot.sh
of course this doesn't matter in 3.5 since it's back to the stock clocking due to the new htc kernel, but I've never had a problem getting my clock speeds to stick when I edited those values on the previous builds
I know it's hind-sight at this point, but this thread is making me think about back when lazypanda first came out and all of the discussions as to why you needed to be s-off and unlocked versus just using the htc dev unlock. So many people said they didn't need to be s-off because the dev unlock let them do everything they wanted. I never even considered using the htc method because I knew I wanted to have full control over my phone even though at the time we didn't really need to be. Hopefully people learn from this.
HTC really turned things upside down within a few updates...
Added Quick Settings (long press hasn't been implemented yet: that'll take some time on new base)
4x4 rosie is now the default (look in MeanROM-ICS folder to flash 4x5)
Fixed flashable zips in sdcard/MeanROM-ICS: only the 4x5 option for now
So now that the new base is out, do we need to flash the radios? I am on HBoot 1.12 so how would I go about getting them, I haven't seen any mention of new radios out?
[RADIOS] Jewel Radio Collection - LATEST 1.12.11.0809
Flash it from recovery
Make sure to select the ones for S-ON users
Even if I am S-Off?
Thanks for the help, Chris.
You didn't mention that
Flash the full firmware one then from bootloader
thanks for the help. Chris.
MeanROM is starting to look scary for us N00bs
I'm running Viper right now but I was thinking about coming back to mean.I'm on 3.1 as of now. When I first flashed it there was no custom kernel or anything. So now I need to fastboot flash the kernel and what else if I want to come back to mean..?
And this talk of radio updates? Am I missing something here? Sorry for the noob type questions fellas. (Sadly I'm s-on)
If you are on H-boot 1.15 you'll have to fastboot flash any ROM based on the new OTA
If 1.15 you dont have to worry about radio updates, beacuse you cant do them unless you RUU and get the new h-boot
Ok thanks am I missing out on anything important by not getting the radio updates? What exactly does that update?
