Do any ROMS exist? Or are there any other phones we could easily port from?

Bump. This is why I joined. I downloaded ROM Manager, and it says I need "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I click on it, and it wants me to "Confirm Phone Model". The options are as follows:

    1. Huawei Pulse Mini
    2. Dell Streak
    3. Huawei Pulse
    4. Commtiva Z71 (Boston, Blaze, and more)
    5. Geeksphone ONE
    6. Spice MI700, Commtiva Link N700 and more)
Is it safe to be "close" and select one of those??

You probably risk bricking the phone by selecting one of those, so I would say no. However I'm not a dev, so I could be wrong. But yes, you do need some sort of recovery method for flashing, just no idea if it's possible with the Vortex at this point. Temporary root works at this point, but that's about it.

So is there any customization going on with this phone at all? A buddy of mine just picked one of these up and I wanted to try to show him the ropes on it, but I don't know its capabilities?

    Does Z4 root this device?
    Any themes available?
I saw in a write up that the browser doesn't support flash even though it ships with 2.2 (that's bullshit), so I was wondering if Dolphin or Skyfire supported flash on this device?

If isn't permanent root isn't possible on this I may suggest he trade it in for something more valuable customize-able as I pretty much convinced him to go Android by showing him all the kick-ass stuff you could do on thus this O.S. on my DX. But I couldn't do half the stuff on my DX if it wasn't rooted.

...ok, ok, I couldn't do 1/10th of the stuff without root!

I don't think permanent root is possible at this time. Do him a favor and tell him to get an Incredible if he wants massive amounts of modification options.

It wasn't permanently rooting my wifes phone as of the middle of December, the last time I played with it. If it's doing it now, then they must have added support for it.
