Hey, just bought an X on the 15th. I'm a first time motorola owner as well as droid owner. I've been on sprint and now I've "seen the light."

I have a few questions for you out there and I apologize up front if these issues have already be answered in other threads:

    1. What version of Android do I have running on my X - I have just the stock version that came with the phone?

    2. When this new froyo update comes out later this summer, what will it do to my phone and what version will it change my phone to (what is froyo)?

    3. My phone is on a business account, not personal. If and when I ever decide to "buy" an app from the market, does it automatically get billed to my cell phone account or do I get the choice to have it billed to a credit card first?

    4. I've heard so much about downloading Launcherpro to my droid; that it will make it a much better experience. How will it change my experience from my stock version? What other "free" apps would I need to download with the Lanucherpro (ie. Homeswitcher??)? Will this have an impact on the big update later this summer if I go to Lanucherpro? Do I really need to buy the Lanucherpro Plus?

Thanks and I really enjoy this forum :D

    1. You have Android 2.1 (aka Eclair)

    2. Froyo is Android 2.2 and will supposedly improve the phone a lot from what I've read. From what I understand when we upgrade to Froyo it will completely wipe the data on your phone so you'll have to make sure you have important things backed up.

    3. You can use your credit card via Google Checkout. Sometime you can also purchase directly from the program developer's website and use Paypal.

    4. LauncherPro is nice because it allows you to customize things a bit more. Some people have had good luck, others have complained it causes lag. The best thing to do in my opinion is just check things out. Trial and error til you find what works for you and what you like and don't like.

    1. You are running Android 2.1 Eclair with Moto's added BLUR elements. It isn't vanilla 2.1, but it also isn't skinned as deep as HTC's Sense.

    2. Froyo is Android 2.2. It's so widely talked about because of the crazy speed increases that come with the new compiler. I won't go into too much detail here, as I'm sure someone else can explain Froyo better than myself.

    3. When you purchase an app from the Market, you will be asked to use Google Checkout. You can add and remove any credit cards you want to this account.

    4. I'm a LP user, and I wholeheartedly recommend it over Moto's stock launcher. It's much quicker and neater, and it is more customizable. It's just an app from the market, so if you don't like it you can revert back to Moto's launcher in a matter of seconds. Give it a try for a couple of days and see how you feel about it.

    Hope I helped you.

Just imagine if every response was as good as Veritech's and j_ryan's.

#3 One more cool thing to keep in mind...if you buy things from the market, you can go back and uninstall them within 24 hours for a full refund. I have done this several times. Great way to try things out.

I doubt the Froyo update will wipe your data.

It didn't for the N1, I don't see any reason it should for the X.
