I had a Droid X that was rooted using Super One Click. I also used Titanium Backup. I got a notice of the upgrade to 2.3 and without thinking just accepted it. Phone was rooted at the time. It bricked the phone. Verizon has provided me with a new Droid X. It comes with 2.3 already on it. Is there a safe program to root the 2.3 os so I can down load Titanium Backup and restore my apps, settings and data? I really don't want to brick the phone again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, you really don't want to upgrade the Android OS while your phone is rooted. If it's already upgraded to 2.3, re-rooting should be a snap.

I'm surprised that Verizon gave you a new phone, what did you tell them happened??

Yep, NEVER EVER EVER accept an update if you are rooted. EVERY SINGLE guide for rooting tells you this, and also tell you to READ EVERYTHING before rooting.

I'm suprised too, he probably just told them it did that when he updated. The techs there probably didnt even think about it being his fault.

Honestly, I wouldn't do it. It doesn't seem like you are ready to root again, you need to do some research before you do. And if you do, DONT transfer settings from phone to phone, only transfer apps and their data, and NOT system apps.

You are right that I just told Verizon that it locked up during the upgrade. Nobody asked about rooting and I certainly didn't volunteer it. I know what I did was a mistake and unthinking. Sorry. But can I still use One Click to root and get my apps and data back?

What do you suggest I should read to become more informed on rooting? I know it's apples and oranges (mostly) but I do my own work on my computers, both hardware and software on a small office and a small home network. So I think I can pick up what ever I need to. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

You would have to sbf back to Froyo, root it, and then install the 2 part rooted GB. Check in the "everything root" section.
