I can try to log the url where Alcatel stores the file, but I don't want to actually update, because I want root just as much as the next, and we don't know yet

I think it's just patching stuff, not updating

I thought you were??? Very anti-climactic how that played out. Were you at least able to reboot your phone, I suspect that was challenging in and of itself. :D

Well that requires flashing a recovery to root, which would not be the same recovery for the 7040N.

I think we have the stock recovery from the update, there's a recovery section, but I don't know that much about android yet, but I'm working on it

i have made some progress using emmc download mode but i am still missing some files and is a really risky procedure that can brick the phone. But as soon i have the good news you will all know :p.

There's a recovery.img.p file in the update, that's all I know, the update was posted earlier

Try this at your own risk. Install the update with ADB Sideload the update can be found above. Good luck!

It's just the stock update zip from metro, so it probably won't do anything

  21. Someone who happens to have a backup phone should try this

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704741

I used a program similar to this to root my kyocera hydro icon, even tho it's not in the list of compatible devices. It's a generic but in depth kit kat root method for locked and unlocked bootloaders. With some adb drivers someone might be able to make it work.

Hope this helps, I also have this phone and would like it rooted.
