There are risks involved with rooting a phone, as well as benefits. For many people and many devices there isn't a compelling reasons to do it. A general rule of thumb, is that if you don't have a good reason to root, you probably shouldn't.

Personally I have one rooted and one non rooted one.

A lot depends on what phone you have?
If the bootloader is locked or can be unlocked?
If a custom recovery is available for your device?
Most importantly, how to return your device back to stock should something go wrong?

I am needing to get the hotspot availability option in my system settings menu. I have the hotspot turn on capability on my L710 but the option is not there for my choice on my L710T

Ok, so it's not the muffler bracket for a '79 Pinto either.

Welcome to our AndroidForums, @DixieLee369 :).

I've gone ahead and move this thread to the SG S3 area for you.

Thanks to all for your helpful replies to DixieLee.

(and @mikedt, my Mom drove a blue Pinto back in '79...don't specifically remember the muffler bracket on that car, though :p)

Thanks to all of you for being so helpful, I am going to try and wrap my head around returning to my "Hotspot" mission, maybe later tonight and I will keep you all posted on my success or failures through the process. Right now, though, I got to get to my school work.
