Root possible before activation?

I have a new S6 from Verizon, which I have not even turned on yet. I know the carrier has locked down the bootloaders, but I wonder if this unit might not be tainted yet, thusly still able to be rooted.

I will be pulling stuff from my S4 tonight, preparing for migration, but I will hold off on activating the new handset if there is a chance of rooting.

I'm not sure I understand. The locked bootloader is already in the firmware. If it is from Verizon it has a locked bootloader. The phone doesn't get switched on the first time and then get the locked bootloader.

I was hoping the bootloader would be part of an update, which I could prevent, and not be coming preloaded. So I would have a chance at root.

Wishful thinking on my part.
