So right now I have the AT&T Galaxy S8+, and I wanted to root it, but apparently you can only root international version ones. If I unlocked my phone through at&t's portal or if I used a paid unlock, would I be able to root my phone? Does unlocking your phone change the model number?

No, it's the fact it's locked isn't the problem, it's the fact it uses the Snapdragon SoC Vs the Exynos.

There is a method for rooting the Snapdragon variant but the last I heard it isn't ready for public use yet.

I believe, if you'll gonna purchase an Unlocking code then you don't need to root your device in order to unlock it. Simple , just need to enter the code . And unlocking won't change the model number .

    Hopefully, I can help you.
