It all depends on what changes you make after rooting.

Some have noted that deleting certain pre-installed apps (like Blockbuster, CityID, etc) prevented them from upgrading to 604, so missing apps may also prevent upgrading to froyo, but we'll see.

After upgrading to 2.2, you probably will lose root. Again, time will tell.

The EVO forums may give you some insight. They should have 2.2 rolling in during the next couple days, but that phone is made by HTC so not an identical situation.

EVO is a whole different story, since they have custom recoveries and can load ROMS, there is no need to do the OTA at all, because they can just flash a ROM made off of it.

If we want to get the 2.2 OTA, we need to restore the apps that we removed with root, or else it won't go through. There's a 99.999% chance it will kill root also.

But that's not to say that 2.2 can't be rooted.

I'm in the school of thought that if its not broke, don't fix it... My phone works for me 100% of the time except for the short battery time so I'm fine with waiting. I don't need the WIFI broadcasting because I connect via bluetooth to my netbook and laptop.

Sorry to go off topic, but is bluetooth tethering to share internet a non-root alternative to a wifi tether? If so, how do you do this?

Thx

there is more reason to update to froyo than "just cuz" the nexus one smokes the X in processing, mainly because of it. wait till before and after benchmarks are released...youll se.
