Root Root without Power Button

Hello! Here's my problem: My Nexus One power button began failing about a month back, but I thought nothing of it and decided to just deal with it. Over the past couple weeks it's gotten worse - to the point where it just does not work anymore. I gave it to a friend to look at and they pried it open and tried to fix the flex cable inside - but ended up breaking it. So I had the brilliant idea of rooting my phone (both to assign the trackball the role of waking up my phone, and also because my warranty expired this January so there's no way to trade it in), except that I have no power button to select the option to do so.

Is it possible to root my phone without the use of the power button?

Use a rooting method that doesn't unlock the bootloader, such as SuperOneClick.

Also make your clumsy buddy go on eBay and buy you a new flex cable.
