Ok guys, be easy on me. I rooted and put a lagfix on my Vibrant but I want to get into custom ROMs and learning how to properly backup my phone.

    Here are my questions.

    1) What exactly are ROMs and are there any Froyo ROMs yet?

    2) Do ROMs have the chance of bricking your phone?

    3) What the eff is a "Nandroid" backup as opposed to a regular backup?

    4) Since I have rooted and want to use a custom ROM, will I still get the official Froyo update? (when it finally comes)

If you can answer each question seperately (by number) that would be GREAT!

    (1) Let me Google that for you

    (2) Not really as it is almost impossible to brick your phone.

    (3) A nandroid back up is essential to use in case you "soft brick" your phone. You can do a nandroid back up/recovery through recovery mode, where as a "titanium" or a "my back up pro", you can't.

    (4) Yes, as long as you are still using the stock kernel and TWiz. If you flashed a modded kernel or are using a 3rd party launcher (adw, laucherpro, etc), you will not get the update.

Not necessarily. I got the JI6 OTA update and I was running LauncherPro. I was, however, running the stock ROM.
