Got my DC rooted, but I was wondering about other ppls opinions on the the RAM space. Anyone think that it could limit our ROM capabilities, especially when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out?

Came from the legendary Droid Incredible, (kind of missing it) and got spoiled by the AmoLED screen. lol

    Any thoughts on this?

    Praying for Cyanogen support!

Android was designed to swap, kill and restore processes. So you'd want a fast SD card and a fast file system. We can always increase the size of the swapfile but with a memory hungry home and launcher applications and many (or large) widgets the VM swapping caused by using the UI could easily get too high and we'd say the system was thrashing. It could easily stop a new ROM from being practical.

Software and configuration compromises and creative replacement homes and launchers could always extend the life of a platform.

Since the Droid Charge has an unlocked bootloader isn't CyanogenMod pretty much a sure thing? How long do you want your new phone to last anyway? Two years should be easy. Also I suspect that the main thrust of Ice Cream Sandwich is to enable the compromises that can help a lesser platform work/look like Honeycomb.

Don't be too sure, the Galaxy S line (this is basically a Galaxy S) is still waiting on CM support. Honestly, this phone has a pathetic dev backing currently, and that's because the ThunderBolt is getting all of the attention. I'll be returning the Charge because I refuse to have a phone that's neglected by devs. We'll probably get CM eventually, as long as someone smart buys this phone and is willing to try and port CM over, though.

Very interesting and helpful input from the both of you guys.

The whole Galaxy S series issue is one of the reasons, I'm so conflicted about DC getting Cyanogen, so far just the Captivate, S and Vibrant gained official support (nothing for the Fascinate) and that happened just this month as the Galaxy S II is releasing. Either way, I'm just looking for a little more customization myself. ADW Ex is fine but once again I was spoiled by my Inc. :)

Now that I think of it though, the RAM and ROM space is the same as in the Incredible, and that was just fine for me.

Ok this guy has been complaining over and over and OVER again with the same issues about the DC...every chance he gets to put something on a thread he always says the same thing "im taking it back because TB is better and theres no devs for DC and there never will be because i can read the future..." i mean geez! TAKE THE PHONE BACK SHADOWDUDE! Its getting old now with the "im taking it back" skit. To everyone else practice makes perfect and perfection takes time...devs will come out with roms nd kernals and what not soon. Get your DC rooted, download the tools you need to make your phone better and have patients.

Yea he can but it gets annoying to see him say the same stuff on every thread. For like almost a week hes been saying hes taking it back...yet he hasnt. Im just telling him to quit complaining and take it back already.

You know you can ignore him and his posts will never come up. Might be the best option for you.

    So... How about those Yankees?

Anyways, I'm sure guys know, but development has been taking off like crazy over there in XDA.

Can't wait to see where this goes, I figured I would keep the DC and then grab the Galaxy S II when it comes out. Then sale the DC to my ex. ;)

I have returned it, thanks for your concern.

And I'm sorry you don't like the unfortunate truth, that NO DEVS are interested in buying this phone and the only way we'll ever get them on board is to set up donation funds to buy them the phone unsubsidized, but that's what it is. We'll get maybe one or two devs who I'm sure will buy it. But wouldn't you rather have the dozen or so that the ThunderBolt has? Good dev support is what keeps the OG Droid alive so long after its release, even though it has such comparatively weak specs.

anyone who had an inc,and/or an eris will recognize alof of names in the TB development comunity. the TB has a pre-alpha cm7 build due to the fact that alot of folks joined in and donated to get slayher a phone. nothing stopping DC owners from odin the same thing. someone just needs to step up and get it goin... approach some devs youd like to see, those that agree to your cause start fund and start rallying!

I'm def watching very closely how the dev community responds to this phone. If there's support, I think I could go this route. I love the look of the Charge, def love the camera and screen. My Droid is on it's last legs and it's def bothering me. But like shadowdude said, the OG has had so much dev support (and still does), that it's taken this long for me to want a new phone.
