Root Rooted Droid - No Service

Hi,

I have a rooted droid (original droid)that stopped getting service this morning. It keeps going to the Bootloader screen. If I leave it alone for a while it will boot up but I have no service and date is Dec 31, 1969. I have been looking at the forums for answers and found some post recommending doing an unroot but I cannot get it to go to the recovery screen. Would flashing a new ROM work? If so, what are the latest instructions for this? Can I do it without the recovery screen coming up?

Are you logged in to your google account? Do you have the superuser icon in app tray? Have you flashed any rom? Did you flash a recovery after rooting? A little more info is needed.

You can always use rsdlite if you can get bootloader screen?

Sounds like you just missed a step and that step was probably recovery but answer my questions and I will do me best to help

On the phone? No Service and no wifi (at the moment)

Could never get to the recovery screen per instructions on this site

You can always use rsdlite if you can get bootloader screen?
rsdlite does not see phone...assumed it was because I was not on the recovery screen

superuser icon is either a little ninja icon or a android + crossbones. It will say superuser. If you don't have this icon/app then you don't have root

Recovery and bootloader are two different screens.

access recovery by hold x on keyboard(hard keyboard) and press the power button (on start up) but don't let off of the X key until the recovery screen. If you get the recovery screen what does it look like? stock or clockworkmod or sprecovery? Only an alternative recovery like sprecovery or clockwork can load custom roms. Both can be flashed by rom manager

access the bootloader by pressing up on the D-pad and pressing power(on start up). you need the bootloader screen to use rsdlite NOT the recovery screen.

You say you have no service but what happens when the phone booted up the first time? It didn't ask for loggin to google right away?

The OP made it pretty clear that he wasn't trying to boot into either bootloader nor recovery. The phone just booted into bootloader by itself for no reason and showed a date of December 31, 1969. This means the phone is a closet hippy. Just kidding. My phone did that once.

The critical thing is to keep the battery charged. First try pulling the battery out for about 30 seconds and then put it back in and see what happens. Failing that, next I would ask you if you bought it new within the last 12 months; meaning I would try for a warranty replacement. Other than that, perhaps trying the last resort method would do it, however I cannot stress how important it is to have a pretty much fully charged battery before you continue. I have two batteries and a battery only charger just for this (and other) reasons.
