don't know if this will be helpfull for you but found this tid-bit of info...

NOTE: it does say "If your phone came pre-installed with Swype
DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)"...

Try by removing /system/app/Swype.apk(IF your on the stock ROM) and /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Baked Snack 1.9 which came with Swype preinstalled, but now I want the newly announced Swype 3.0 Beta.... Any ideas? I can't uninstall, via the App Manager, Astro, or deleting the apk.

Easy fix, guys: I simply used Titanium Back-up to uninstall it (go to the Uninstall System Apps batch). Very easy, worked like a charm. Now running Swype 3.0 Beta - it's great!
