Root rooting a htc desire on froyo 2.2

this may have already been asked but here we go.....

mate of mine has just got a htc desire already running 2.2......whats the safest way to root it?? will unrevoked 3 work ok or is he best of downgrade to a custom 2.2 rom like teppics one??

i dont know what network his desire was on but i know it is now unlocked to all networks

Teppic's rom or any custom 2.2 rom are the same version as 2.2, not a downgrade


You can root with unrevoked 3.21 on 2.2. Most people manage this fine, but if there are any problems, you will have to use teppic's downgrade tool to downgrade to 2.1 and root using unrevoked 3.14

lol ok mate cheers....will have a go at using unrevoked 3.21 if no joy will downgrade,

just in the process of flashing mine again with MoDaCo.....any thoughts on it??

I like MoDaCo roms. My fiance is running one on her hero. I used to run r5 and r8 on my desire. As far as sense roms go, I like them.

I don't like sense though so no longer use modaco.

what actually is 'sense' im not used to the desire only had mine for about a week lol

also on this modaco rom it was meant to enable the trackball to take the phone out of sleep mode but it dont, do you know of a rom that does that along with ap2sd+

Sense is the interface that HTC put over the top of stock Android. Some people like it and some don't (I, personally, like it)

I don't to be honest as I don't like that functionality.

In regards to what is sense, Sense is the user interface so the homescreens where you place your widgets, many of the Widgets are HTC sense only too. The app drawer is sense. Basically everything you interact with that isn't a menu is sense.

I flash the radio first, but I'm not sure if it matters...

And yeah, flash one right after the other.

I take it you mean his init.d enabled ROM, as the other one includes the radio anyway.

If you are starting from stock 2.2 then you probably have the recommended radio already (try menu->about phone->software information and look at the "baseband version"). I'm using that ROM, but as I already had radio 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 there was no need to flash the radio as well.
If you are coming from 2.1 or have an earlier radio then you should update the radio as well.

As long as you don't reboot between flashes, it doesn't really matter whether you flash the radio or rom first, but the traditional order is rom first and then radio.
