Root Rooting as of 5/19/2011?

So I just got rid of an LG Ally for this phone and I want to know if there is any way to root it now. I see on other websites that there are roms, but no real way of rooting, except one that might be outdated. Any info is appreciated, thanks. The past phone I had was rooted with clockwork mod recovery so I know slightly about rooting, but I rooted that phone with z4root and never learned how to use an adb shell.

The only posts I could find refer to 2.1 or lower. Since I'm on 2.2.1 I don't think it will work, and I can't afford to brick another defy... :/
