Rooting before or after 2.1

    I still haven't received the 2.1 update yet, but I'm still unclear how updates affect rooted devices and vice-versa.

    Does it matter whether I root my Droid before or after I receive an update? If so, what are the benefits?

    I'm pretty sure you still can't root with an official 2.1 install.

    If you're gonna root, do it now. There are lots of ROMs based on 2.1, including one based on the official 2.1 update. You need to already be rooted to use them however.

    If you get the OTA 2.1 update, you are going to have to go back to 2.0.1 before you root anyway so you'll just be adding unnecessary time to the process.

    my phone is rooted with sirpsychos 2.1. i am trying to install Verizons 2.1 but i am getting an error:
    --install from sd card
    finding update package...
    opening update package...
    verifying update package...
    installing update...
    verifying current system...
    assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/accountandsyncsettings.apk"...[then 3 file numbers]
    E: error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7)
    install aborted

    Please help......
