    Firstly, Hello forum :)

Completely new to the whole custom roms/rooting business and I'm looking for a few pointers.

    1) do I need to use a computer to root my device?
2)will I be able to use flash and various other features such as installling apps to my sd card that are included in the 2.2 firmware for android, (which Samsung completely abandoned us in updating from. 2.1)?
    3) (according to features listed above that I need) which rom is the best?

Thanks for your time all, blizz :)

  2. 1) yes
    2) flash, i don't think so (?) - installing apps to sd, yes, with an app that works on rooted devices (don't need froyo)
    3) most galaxy users would probably agree that galaxo 1.6.3.3 is the best rom for anyone atm

What other good advantages are thwre to this though? Because currently it doesn't seem to be worth it

  4. i still haven't tried it myself, but apparently galaxo is somewhat faster than samsung's vanilla firmwares, mainly due to the ability to overclock the cpu (plus some tweaks)
it lets you tether via wifi and enable swap and compressed caching
also, many apps require root access to work

The above, it is faster and battery life is far better in my experience.

Everything seems to be better for me with Galaxo, including the battery.

 ... I'll be honest here. I was STUNNED when I read this.

Out of curiosity, do you guys think it's possible? Like, perhaps with an over-the-air update or something? I doubt if ANY operator would really do it, but on a technical level, without a PC, can we root a phone?

Anything's possible given enough time and money.

Excellent. I've got some cardboard boxes and a bit of string here, would you make me a Ferrari? I'd prefer a red one. Thanks.
