Root Rooting Froyo OTA to delete apps?

Alright so I just downloaded the Froyo OTA update.

I don't want to do anything too crazy with my phone, however there are a couple of things I would like to change.

1. Delete HTC lock screen, I read if you delete the htclockscreen.apk it will just use the standard "vanilla" froyo one

2. Delete all of the bloatware apps (Sprint Nav, TV, Zone, Nascar, Football, etc)

3. Wifi Tether

Will I be able to do this with just root or do I need a custom ROM? I have read through XDA and on here but I am in over my head. I'm used to jailbreaking iPhones in one step or just installing Preware.

I really don't want to have to reset my phone since I have finally got it set up and looking the way I like.

Can someone point me in the direction of what I need to do (unrevoked?) to enable the three things I listed? Because I am lost with rooting and unlocking nand and custom ROMs and kernels.

Is it even possible to root the OTA right now, or do I need to wait?

Thanks!

Not possible yet.

Those changes look like a decent amount. Flashing a custom rom that fits your needs is probably easier than doing it all manually.

If you got the OTA update, you are not rooted, and you won't be able to do any of the things you listed. There's currently no way to root your phone if you're already on stock 2.2.

To do the things you want to do, you will need to do a full root. I would not consider unrevoked, unless their rooting method for 2.2 includes unlocking NAND. You will want to look for rooting solutions that unlock NAND. In the meantime, do some more reading and learn more about the rooting process. You're on the right track.

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep reading around. Losing everything will suck but if that is what it takes then I'll wait for fresh or cyanogen to root the OTA.
