    Hello

I have tried to root my Desire (Android 2.2) following howtogeek's "How to Root Your Android Device & Why You Might Want To" instructions. I am using SuperOneClick, & the rooting process ran as expected but I received an error message saying something along the lines of "Busybox not found. Would you like me to install it?" so I pressed yes. After pressing yes to isntall the Busybox file, the phone restarted itself, & nothing else has happened so I believe the rooting process has halted altogether.

Before rooting I previously had a low on storage error (the main reason for rooting in the first place!) - could this be the problem?

    Here is the log:

Can anyone help? How do I tell if my phone has been successfully rooted?

    Many thanks in advance.

Do you have the superuser app installed on your phone?

Hi dialects, and welcome to AF :)

Forget SuperOneClick for the Desire. You should either use Unrevoked (if your software isn't too new) or Revolutionary (better if you would like S-Off, i.e. "full root", as well). If you look in the All Things Root Guide sticky post in this forum (red link in my signature as well) you'll find guides to using both of these. I'd generally advise Revolutionary, as it gives you more flexibility once it's done.

The problem with SuperOneClick is almost certainly that your software is too new for it - the exploit it used was plugged a long time ago. Even if it worked it won't give you a custom recovery, which you'll want if you wish to flash ROMs or make a proper backup. Both of the procedures we have guides for here will install a custom recovery during the process. :)
