I have an LG Optimus F3, on Virgin Mobile, and I want to root my device because of the low amount of data on internal storage.
I do NOT want to erase my data that is currently on my phone, and I do not really understand much about the whole rooting concept.
If you could please help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

We have a FAQ post for "what is rooting" and its here:

    http://androidforums.com/faqs/443432-what-root-being-rooted-mean.html

Generally rooting your phone does not erase any data, it just gives access to all parts of your phones memory, rather like being a Windows administrator. If you want to also install a custom ROM (operating system) then you will lose all your data, but you could back it all up first.

I suggest that you register on the forums and suscribe to the forum for your phone where the folk are more familiar with LG phones than me :)
