    I am so nervous!

Ok, I downloaded Unrevoked3, have backed up my apps per the Rooting for Dummies guide but...

Do I need to do the format SD card and put my phone to factory reset? I know it says optional in the rooting for dummies guide but I really don't want to loose my contacts and stuff like that.

Ok, also on unrevoked3 it says to "make sure hot sync is NOT installed" is this a program on the phone or on my computer?

Thanks, I am on the pre-rooting step right now....

You don't need to factory reset, but you can. And htc sync would be on your pc. You need it for the right drivers, then delete it from the pc

you can make a backup of your contacts and save it to your sd card, while in contacts, menu - import/export... if you haven't done much with your phone besides adding apps, a factory reset isn't completely necessary... you can also sync your contacts, calendar and such with your gmail account and sync them back after root...
