I admit I messed up... forgot to voodoo backup pre-OTA. now I can't seem to get motofail root to work. has anybody else borked themselves and been able to successfully re-root with motofailwin2go?

At this point, you have to go back to ICS, root, and then update to JB w/ root already protected. There's no known working root exploit once you're already on JB.

too much hassle. I'll just wait.

I Voodoo'd but it didn't do anything. After OTA ran Voodoo and tried to restore root and it did nothing.

Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper will only work if your superuser app is up to date and you have the most up to date binaries.

Unfortunately, now that you're on JB, you have no way to regain root without going back to ICS. Then you'd need to root, go to the play store and make sure superuser is up to date, go to superuser and make sure your binaries are up to date, and THEN protect root with voodoo. Then it will 100% work.

I was most up to date on SuperUser and Binaries. When I click "Restore root" a popup shows "root su restored" but nothing else happens nor do any root app work.

Weird. that should have worked. Can you open SU and see if the binaries update? What does root checker say?

"su binary not found" and the "outdated binary notification" is checked.

The only thing I can think of that might cause it to not work as-above is if you voodoo protected an older version (i.e. the one that you had before you updated to the latest binaries) and didn't redo it after the update.

What it means otherwise is that you're SOL for root without going back to ICS. :(

Same deal for me, unfortunately. How would I go about going back to ICS?

    edit: answered in another thread:

If he is on JB I was under the impression that you can not go back to ICS once on JB. I could be wrong but it was that way going from GB to ICS with the Bionic and Razr

The Razr HD tool linked above did the trick, option 1 brings you back to ICS, option 2 gets root, option 3 installs OTA rootkeeper (or you can do it through the play store). As several people have suggested, update binaries in SU, backup root with rootkeeper, get the JB update, and then restore root with rootkeeper. Worked this time!

Maybe someone will be able to come up with a JB root soon for this phone without going back to ICS.
