So i'm trying to root my droid x with the z4root app and it goes all the way to Acquiring root shell. but then it just closes out. I'm not getting the superuser app, and i'm assuming this is all because I'm running the new GB 2.3.3.

I will admit I am a noob. lolz

z4root does not work on GB (596). If you want root and you let the update install on your phone you will have to sbf back to stock and flash Team Black Hat's rooted two file version.

The links and instructions for those can be found at the top of the forum in the stickies. The best place for you to start would be the newbies guide. It can explain things so you will understand.

Gingerbreak only worked on GB release version .588 and .591.
