Hi guys, I'm new here and I'm new with phones such as HTC Magic. Previously using a phone with just the capability of calling and texting.

Ok, so I have a HTC Magic. The firmware version is 1.5 and I wish to upgrade it to 2.1. However, the phone has difficulty synching with my computer. I'm running Win7 64bit. HTC Sync version would be 2.0.33. Doesn't work eventhough I've disabled both the Windows' firewall and antivirus(avast!).

    Firmware version: 1.5
    Baseband versoion: 62.525.20.18U_3.22.20.17
    Kernel version: 2.6.27-357975db herbert@and18-2 #1069
    Build number: 2.16.707.3 146733 CL#32934 release-keys

I got the phone from my sister, the carrier was Starhub(Singapore), am currently using it in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with a prepaid SIM.

I've been reading through other questions and answers posted by forumers. There's something called rooting which helps in upgrading the firmware and such. So my question is: how to sync the Magic with my computer? And if that doesn't work, how do I root and upgrade the phone's firmware?

    Thanks in advance!
