I am new to this and have just rooted my phone (Htc Hero). Is there a difference b/w rooting your phone and unlocking it? If so what and how do I do it? I am on sprint and am not even sure if unlocking it will do anything since it is CDMA.

Rooting is giving you superuser permissions for your phone. You will have complete control on what you can do with the phone. Overclock, remove apk's, change roms.....If interested in rooting look here http://androidforums.com/sprint-her...g-guide-updated-7-10pm-est-aug-30-2010-a.html

I believe unlocking is taking your phone to a different carrier, I don't believe Sprint allows that, but I could be wrong:thinking:
