rooting with z4root

So I tried rooting my cousins mytouch slide with z4root and I did it but for some reason every root app says I don't have superuser permissions. The phone still works fine but the superuser icon is there but just doesn't work. I have a rooted and rommed droid and I consider myself pretty experienced so what do I do?

Um.. I don't think MyTouch slide was initially supposed to be used with z4root. You COULD try just going full on root. I know there's a ROM that's literally the Stock ROM with root access and superuser added. Here's a guide I wrote if your interested:

But I honestly couldn't say how that would turn out. Maybe you could go ask the smart fellows at XDA.
